  • Morons and snow....

What is it about a clean parking lot that makes people just have to get out and clean the snow off their cars?

Last night I worked 9pm to 7am. It was a mixture of rain, ice, and snow until about 1am.

From 1am to a little after 2am we got like 2 inches of WET HEAVY snow.
Because of all the caps in the lot, the ones for the tanks and the ones over the ground water testing holes, we can not use a plow. We have to shovel the lot and it took me and my co-worker like an hour to get it all cleared off.

What do our stupid customers do? They pull in and go inside or have me pump their gas and they then start cleanign the snow off their cars! I got tired of asking them not to do that because I have to clean it up. The looks I got could have killed me if looks could kill.

Why wait until you get to my work place to clean the car? Why not do it infront of your house?

I told the owner when he got in that I will take a shovel full of snow and toss it into the next a$$holes car and see how they like it. He laughed and told me I couldn't do that and that people have always done that for as long as he and before him his dad owned the place.

Co-worker told me to be glad the bosses dad wasn't there because he would go off on them and he might even do what I felt like doing.

    you should move to here...
lots of the locals don't bother cleaning the snow off at all... not even the back window.

There's a machine they use over here which is basically a very large rotary brush, on a swivel mount. I suspect the vehicle it's attached to doubles as a sweeper outside of winter.

Anyway, this brush is very effective at clearing snow off pavements with small obstacles (such as manhole covers or drain channels) on them. The one caveat is that you have to avoid running into any SCs with it, otherwise they'll get scratched rather thoroughly.

We have "blowing snow" right now. Which as far as I can tell, means "sandblasted with ice molecules at 3 degrees Kelvin."

I don't like Alberta winters very much...

Chromatix, could you send some of that this direction... it is now Dec 13th and the ground is still bone dry.

Agreed. We need some, at least in the mountains so we don't have another drought summer. And here the meteorologists I heard yesterday were saying, "Watch for lots of snow tonight. Lots of snow. It's going to snow all day tomorrow (referring to Saturday) and on through Monday. Don't travel unless you have to because the roads will be covered with snow. Snow, snow, snow." ... It is now 8AM on Saturday. Not only is the ground still completely devoid of snow, but I think the clouds are starting to clear out.

That said, I can at least be happy that the parking lots are clear. With the first snowfall, anyone who shops at my store suddenly forgets about the yellow lines on the ground or even about parking in orderly rows. They just stop their vehicle wherever pleases them and come on inside. This is a chain reaction that hacks our parking capacity to about half just because idiots get distracted by white flakes of precipitation in the air and can't park properly.
I suspect that... inside every adult (sometimes not very far inside) is a bratty kid who wants everything his own way.

To be honest, that photo was from the middle of November, straight after a blizzard. It's practically all melted now - only little mounds from the snowplough are left.

                    But we're expecting more!

Will you people please quit swearing? We have enough *shit* in Wisconsin right now as it is, and only need about 90 more inches until we reach last year's record totals.

We still got 320,000 people without power here.

I didn't get affected (thank you God), mostly up north did. We got a bit of ice covering the trees but we did get rain. Lots and lots and lots of rain.

And I wants teh snow, we got a quarter of an inch and all the rain melted it.

How many inches did ya'll get up there last winter? We didn't see any to speak of last year.

However, we did get a dusting of white powdery stuff a week before Thanksgiving and for our region, that's a rarity for November. It was gone by late afternoon and we haven't had any since, but have had rainy spells.

Send a few inches around Christmas Eve if you can - I've never had a White Christmas.
