The other day I had an angry person call the campus visit line upset because he was trying to reach the switchboard (what he called Front Desk) for the university.
As I am trying to explain that the university doesn't have a "front desk" but I can transfer him to the switchboard, he grows more and more agitated, yelling because the switchboard/main line isn't published in the phonebook or on our website.
It's pretty common that "real" universities and colleges don't have many "front desks" perse, and switchboard numbers are rarely published. If someone wants something, they usually are able to find the area or department they want and call it directly.
He wouldn't have any of this, so I shifted into SC-Terminator mode and shot back with: "I don't write the phonebook, so what do you want me to do about it?!"
After a second or two of silence, I asked if he wanted me to transfer him to the switchboard and he politely said yes.
Then I hung up on him. (j/k, I WISH!)
