see this is the odd part, Santa should look like you believe him to be, I mean it is based with German roots, so shouldn't he look Germanic? It is also like Jesus, most 'pictures' show him different depending on where your located (IE mexico shows him with darker skin, than the pic my grandmother has) than his biblical description (its in there)
The one I've got out right now is wearing a kilt and playing bagpipes!

Imagine what she would have done if the cup had a picture of Kwanza Bot on it or maybe even Hanaka Zombie.
    Or a couple of pentagrams?

I saw him on tv while flipping through channels yesterday evening riding the waves on a surfboard.
Is that why I haven't seen him riding his Norelco shaver down the mountain?

it's santa! since when does santa give a flying reindeer poo about race? the only "race" he cares about is "naughty" and "nice
I'd be more worried about the fact that he exhibits stalker tendencies!

Honestly, when I was little, it never occurred to me to be bothered about seeing many pictures of "Santa" looking different. I always assumed that, in order to be able to deliver that many presents, he had help. I think my brother is the one that initial put the idea of "elves" being the Santas in the mall, so that Santa could make toys.

So that's what my kids think. Daughter actually came up with it on her own. Son asked this year how there were Santas at both malls near us. Daughter said "Well, Santa's really busy so they must be elves in costume." I thought it was rather smart of her.

We have a black Santa, a white Santa and I've even seen a "Native American" Santa in the malls and events near us. Never bothered me. I'm glad my kids are growing up in a world where they don't automatically notice someone's color. Daughter really doesn't seem to distinguish between black - asian - indian - white as anything but how her friends look different from her. That's it -- it's no big deal. And I think that's cool.

Though I do have to be careful which mall we go to because one of the mall Santas locally is a very VERY good friend of ours that lives about two blocks away from us (he and his wife are both retired and kind of the neighborhood grandparents. They have Sunday dinner with us at least once a month and Daughter and Son adore them). I think THAT might bother Daughter a little bit.

He was a hero to me....and heroes are not supposed to die.

Seriously, though, I still don't understand why the polar bear cup wouldn't have worked.

I wonder what this lady would think if the cups had the different "Santa Claus" figures from around the world... or the REAL St Nicholas of Myra?

                  Just a few:
                  Joulupukki-- Finland
                  Pere Noel-- France
Babbo Natale & La Befana-- Italy
                  Hoteisho-- Japan
                  Father Christmas-- Scotland
                  Jultomten-- Sweden
                  Papa Noel-- Spain
Ded Moroz (Father Frost)-- Yugoslavia (he delivers presents on New Years Day)

In certain parts of Latin America, children are told that Santa Claus makes the toys, but Baby Jesus delivers them.

Cause a Polar Bear has a huge cock and balls to protect. They probably didn't need protection that big....

                      A black Santa?

I think that, like a lot of things in an increasingly multicultural world, ideas are adapted to local traditions and tastes, and why shouldn't they be? The early Christian church began in what is essentially the Middle East, and yet look at nearly every painting of JC in existance, and you see European features. In Japan I saw statues of the traditional saints, and they had Asian facial features. In Bali I went to a McDonalds that had a statue of a decidedly Asian Ronald at the front door. So, why not a black Santa?

The Baby Jesus brings presents to children in the Czech Republic, too. Every December, at the beginning of the month, there is a day called "Mikulas" (Nicholas), when three people dressed as an angel, a devil, and a skinny St. Nicholas go around talking to children and asking them what they want. Some of them hire themselves out to parents with children so that the father of the family doesn't have to play the Nicholas role and get caught out by the kids.

                            Blame Coke

If only it was that easy to blame the elixir of caffiene for the evil of our current santa Icon.
Kay can we move the racism people to the bible belts in saskatchewan so they can get trained well.
