  • "What, no 3 course meal?"

Ok so this guy wasn't really awful....

It was a 1hr and 10 min flight. As it was off peak so we just serve (free) drinks-tea/coffee/juice/soft drinks/alcohol and either 'birdseed' or a cookie.

This elderly, well spoken man said in a very shocked and surprised tone "Is this all I'm getting? At one time you would have served a 3 course meal on china plates!"

I felt like saying "was that before BEA and BOAC merged and the 'stewardessess' wore white gloves as they served you."

    But I didn't.
    No longer a flight atttendant!

and ... all that extra food adds to the weight of the plane
    which means more gas
    higher prices

so who's up for a "free" lunch?

I, for one, never feel like eating during a flight anyway. Snacky stuff, sure, but no real food, even when i'm at an airport between flights.

BTW, I don't know which airline you work for, but your sisters-in-arms at Southwest were all wonderful on my flight home on Saturday.

I still remember the advice my father gave me when we went trans-Atlantic once:
"Son, when we're up there and you see the world in all its majesty and you're not sure what your place is, remember: Always get the kosher meal."
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

This is slightly off topic but the mention of the word "stewardesses" made me think of it.
A friend of mine is a flight attendant and is also gay. One day he was talking about work and someone asked what it's like being a flight attendant and he corrected them by saying, "Honey, I ain't no flight attendant! I'm a stewardess!"

Just a note: he hates that word as much as the next flight attendant - he was just being silly. :P

I'm surprised he didn't ask you to tuck him and read him a bed time story. I've flown since I was 6 years old, and even then, with 2 hour flights, we didn't get "3 course meals" on "china" with "silverware". We got TV Dinners in plastic trays with plastic ware and WE LIKED IT.

Yeah, that was 50 years ago. Those days are long gone.

Yep, the one time I flew we got the meal on the real china. It would have been in the late 60s on either Frontier or TWA on a flight from Denver to St. Louis. Lovely meal...roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans almondine..there was dessert but I forget what it was. Flying was a whole different experience then.
