UGH. So Tuesday. I had a guest looking for 2 watches for a 13 yr old and a 10 yr old. Asking my opinion what watch would be for teenagers. I showed her our xhilaration (that's how the company spells it) watches and said that those are the ones made for teenage girls. she approaches me later asking about 2 casio watches I have locked up. asks if they could be for the 2 she asked about. the one had a pink face..i shrugged and said it could. but really felt it was definitely not for the 10 yr old and I told her so. the face was too big. too mature looking. adult like. but despite my opinion she decided on that watch and the same watch but w/ a blue face for the 13 yr old. she said she'd need 3 links taken out for the 10 yr old and 2 for the 13 yr old. i figured more than that since the watch is made for adults and is too big for most adult female women the way it is. but i didn't say it.
The casio watches are hard work. they aren't the easy links that you just push out. I have to take a tool small enough and stick it in this little hole and push at this little bump and push out. but the band gets in the way b/c it's not one that opens all the way. only someone who does or did my type of work can probably understand what I'm talking about and knows how hard it is. of course some are easier to push out. But most aren't. It takes a really long time to do it. She goes shopping while I do.
I think it took me a half freaking hour. I'm not kidding. The one watch was one of the more stubborn ones. I tried every link and none would push out. The tool kept slipping out and stabbing me. I was getting seriously annoyed. I switched to the other watch which of course took no time at all. I went back to the previous one and finally got the links I needed out. Then I notice I have 15 mins till I have to go on lunch. At our huddle out LOD told us we had to go on time today b/c of the rush we were having of last minute shoppers..it's been insane this week. Insanely busy. So to make sure we always had coverage we had to go on time. I was the manager on duty over my softlines department and I didn't have anyone else to cover for me to run things..much less cover my jewelry department. So I had to grab a team member who wasn't going to lunch at the same time as me and do a crash course w/ her on how to take out links in case the lady came back while I was on lunch and decided to have more links taken out.
We go to the boat and the lady came back at that moment. Now it was 10 minutes till I had to go to lunch. I was right in assuming she'd want more links taken out. She tried both on and they were both still too big for her wrist so no way would they fit a kids wrist. She asked for one more to be taken out of the watch for the 13 yr old and 2 more out of the one for the 10 yr old. Then she asked my fellow team member that I pulled if the one watch would be fine for a 10 yr old. My team member told her no..which is what I told her. So she changed her mind. AFTER I ALREADY WORKED MY ASS OFF TO TAKE OUT ALL THOSE DAMN LINKS. I was so seriously annoyed. She picks out another watch and wants links taken out. This is one of the normal ones where you just slide the link on out..so much easier. So that was fast. I looked and saw that I was 10 minutes late for lunch.
Which is when she mentions that she's in a hurry and has to be somewhere so if I could please ring her up while my team member takes out the links in the hard casio watch. I wanted to strangle her in that moment. It's one of my major pet peeves when guests come shopping when they need to be somewhere else and so expect you to rush for them b/c of their poor time management. I told her no. I explained that we had to take our lunches on time and I was now 11 minutes late so I have to go. She asked me to please do it and I told her no again and left.
I was mad all through lunch knowing I had to go back and put those stupid links back into the watch of the one she decided not to get. I left late from work and she came back when I was leaving. I was more than half way to the top of the escalator when she calls out to me from the jewelry boat. She came back for the links. My team member told me that she was in a rush and said she'd be back for the links that were taken out in case the watches turned out to be too small and links needed to be added back on. She of course chose that opportune moment. I refused to go back down. I told her from the escalator and that she should press the call button. She was still waving me down. Instead of going back down I went and happily clocked out and ran out of Target.
Speaking of that call box button. When my team member and I were both back there these 2 ladies pressed it. We both looked up..I believe I was glaring. That's another pet peeve of mine..pressing that button when I'm already in the department..especially when it's obvious I'm already w/ a guest. They started laughing and saying "oh I thought when I pressed it that it would print a number out for our turn." Seriously? Where is that number going to print out?! I hate idiots.
I detest the guests who throw their money (especially the coins) onto the counter for me to pick up. I put their change back on the counter for them to pick up. I dislike rude people. I was helping a guest..I was in the middle of an explanation and this lady kept going "excuse me". Seriously? You can't see that I'm w/ a guest? So that was all in the course of one day. I'm thankful that I didn't have to work Christmas Eve. I bet it was a mad house today.
Anyways, I feel for everyone here that work retail and worked this week leading up to Christmas. This Friday it'll be easy for us finally..well not for those in the returns department (where I'm glad I no longer work). Seeing as it's past midnight..merry Christmas.
