  • Thanks for wasting my time

People email the library asking for copies of articles and obituaries. Sometimes people call in but an email reference form has to be filled out. Note, I changed names

    First person, original request:

In Houston Paper, article about me, Andrea Long who was hit by train on 45
and 1488. This was in Conroe. Son was with her, William King. No
    casualities. Accident March 19, 1996.

    First person, second submission:

Can you please revise the dates? The accident was on May 19, 1996 - Not March.

    Thanks,
    Andrea Long

Me: Thanks so much Ms. Long for nothing getting your facts straight before getting us to spend time looking for something that can't be there.

    Second person:

I am sorry to be bothering you, but I would like to cancel the search for an obituary for John W. Greenhouse died Feb. 17, 1972 harris Co., TX. While going through my records, I discovered that I had already received this obit from you last year.

However, I still would like a search and an obit if found of Minnie Pearl Randle who died Feb. 27, 1982 in Harris Co., TX. as I stated in my first e-mail request to you.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused to you by my mistake.

Me: ok, we email the person, after spending time looking for an obit. Since the dated was before the online database started to index names, we had to look in 2 diff. papers up to 3 days after the dod. Oh, and now you bother to go look for the obit. And you couldn't have bothered to tell us that we looked for it before for you, so we can go to our files and see the date and paper we copied the obit. from. I think I'll work on Minnie's obit next week. Heck, make it two weeks.

Now the thing is we don't charge for searching, just for copies. So we don't get paid for the work of just finding the stuff, and telling them the cost of it. We also don't charge if we look for articles and obits but don't find them. So this is a big useless thing when we could actually help the people who live in this city who come in.

Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.
