I only use checks for my rent payment and when I was still paying off my car. My other loan, well, the lovely people at RCU set it up for me so that I don't have to go there anymore and write a check, they can just deduct the minimum amount every month and if I want to pay more, then I can go in and write a check.
We had a "Bad Check Book" book at the gas station. An alphabetically listed book of people who had written bad checks to us. Instead of banning checks, they expected the cashier to reference the book every time someone wrote a check.
