Would you want to sleep on a pillow that someone else slept on?
Unless one brings their own pillow to a hotel, they sleep on a pillow that someone else has slept on.

I use pillow protectors and pillowcases for our pillows at home, we don't sleep with our heads on "bare" pillows.

Let me word it another way, since I didn't realize hair splitting was going to be going on. Would you want to pay hard earned money for a supposedly brand new item that had already been used?

If one is going to a hotel, by the very nature of the business, one understands that others have slept in the bed previously, and it's not expected that the rate for the room covers a new mattress and bedding each time, however, if a person goes to a retail store to BUY bedding, it is expected that the merchandise is new.

A bit of apples and oranges going on there.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Also about the pillow comment. I have a dog I love and buy stuff from my store for her. Also the customer mentioned that they will just give it to the dog when I refused the return. I will sleep on a pillow MY dog has laid on but I don't want somebody elses animals funk. We inform every customer before they buy and about 99% thank us for not reselling these items. They only get mad when they want to return them.

Since when do customers read any sign that doesn't have the word "free" on it?
          Heh heh heh...

Note for later: Offer free vasectomies and free hysterectomies.

Post many signs announcing these free offers.

I can totally agree with not being able to return items that could have possibly been used. Pillows can get pretty gross so I get that. It would be like trying to return a toothbrush. The only things I don't get about some stores is why you can't return a game.

            Off topic sorry:

I get its their policy and all but I don't see why not. I never cause a stink in Gamestop but one time did get me angry. We bought a new ps3 game for like sixty bucks and took it home. Didn't work.Took it back got an exact copy and something was still wrong with that one--yes go figure. Finally we just asked if we could just get a store credit or maybe our money back or just exchange it for another game.

They couldn't do it at the same price and we were out like fourty dollars because they couldn't give us back the full price. Irked me but its their store's policy and I don't punish the workers for the store's policy.

For that you can blame the people who burn copies of games and return them to the store so they get them for free.

Exactly. Most rules that are in place, particularly ones that seem EXTRA stupid, are thanks to people who have abused the system in the first place.

Doesn't just happen in retail and/or customer service, either.

My understanding of the game thing is that it's the same as CDs and movies, and has to do with the companies making the media, not the stores selling it.

As for pillows, if the OP is in MA they're not allowed to take back or resell bedding. It is in fact illegal to sell "used" mattresses etc. Which is why most places won't take them back. Places that do are usually national chains who can ship that sort of stuff to states without those laws. I've never understood it either, but that's life.

With things like that you can often get full credit by working with the manufacturer rather than the retailer. As a manufacturer (of software) we can do a lot more for a customer who got a lousy disk and help verify whether there is an issue with a certain run.

Also by working with us we can authorize an RMA so the retailer can give you a refund (if that's what you want) and know that we will re-imburse him. If we are not involved with a refund, then the retailer is going to have to eat the cost of the refund. Most just can't afford to do that routinely.

Thirdly the warranty is OUR obligation not the retailer's. Read it and hold us to it. We have to honor it; the retailer does not.

I hope that helps if you ever run into a situation like that again.
