  • No you cannot sit in Business Class with a coach ticket

I had to tell 2 passengers to move to their correct seats today, they plonked themselves in the third row despite being in row 21. I remembered where they were meant to be sat so...

I waited until boarding had finished, asked to see their boarding cards and apparently they had lost them in between the door and their row.... So quick as a flash I grabbed the passenger list, asked them their names and said they were in row 21. They seem confused so I pointed at the big number 3 above the seats and then again at row 21.

"Oh can't we just sit here anyway, we can't be bothered to walk ALL THE WAY UP THERE."

I said, "well this in the Business Class cabin, you have paid for a coach ticket. I'm sure that you will be perfectly comfortable in row 21, the middle seat is free so you will have plenty of room." Then I moved aside to let them pass and stood there until they got the hint.

When they got off, no thanks, no buh-bye, nothing. Plain rude as well as bloody cheeky.

Reminds me of one of my favourite blonde jokes.

Blonde gets on a plane bound for Atlanta and plops down in first class. The stewardess comes by and tells her that she'll have to go to her seat in coach. She replies "I'm blonde, I'm beautiful, I'm staying in first class". This argument continues with the blonde always having the same reply. The Captain comes to her and tells her that she has to go to her seat in coach but "she's blonde, she's beautiful, she's staying in first class". The co-pilot sees the situation and says "I'm married to a blonde, I speak blondese, let me handle this". He goes over and whispers in her ear at which point she thanks him and picks up her belongings and goes right to her seat in coach. With their jaws on the floor at how easily he took care of it, the two ask him what he said, "Simple" he says, "I just told her that first class wasn't going to Atlanta".

There is no way I want people on a plane with me if they don't have a boarding pass for said plane. As the worse interpretation is someone booking one flight then somehow slipping onto another plane for reasons that suggest they are up to no good.

I bet if given the choice to show their passes or leave the plane that the passes would magically appear.

I see this happening at 10,000ft. I also see someone saying "Arrr!! Ye be walking the plank ye dirty stowaways!"

I thought of this scene from the third Indy movie.

                That was my thought

                  No ticket!

And what in the world made those people feel they were entitled to seats they hadn't paid for?

Or Dogma. Great send up to the Indy scene.

I'm going to have to tell that one tonight at dinner.

On the flights from Auckland, New Zealand to Los Angeles, one of the airlines ticket counters always had a big sign (readable from anywhere in the line) stating "Upgrade to business class, $1,000.00 USD" (when a one-way flight was $600-$800 coach).

So then everyone could cheerfully state to these douchewaffles "Sure you can ride business class, what credit card would you like that charged to?"
