I just had to stomp on an eBay buyer who won an item I was selling, then decided they didn't want it anymore.

Helloooo......eBay is NOT a retail store. You can't just change your mind on stuff.

Per the eBay rules: A bid or purchase on eBay is considered a contract and you’re obligated to purchase the item.

So I cancelled the transaction and sent a Second Chance Offer to the next highest bidder.

At least the buyer was honest and contacted me about it rather than simply not pay, but come on. It pissed me off to get that message. I consider that to be SC behavior. I sent them a polite but very firm note saying that I won't force them to pay, but that they won't be bidding on anything else I may sell in the future, because they are BLOCKED.

If only I could do that to customers in real life.

I'd file the UPI and give 'em the strike.

    On an amusing note:
I often sell items of an, um, adult nature.
I am dicreet with FB. You don't get it unless you ask, and I say something generic, like 'Thank you for your purchase'.
    Unless you don't pay.
Since I can't give you a neg these days (or a negatively worded pos), I just give you a nice pos for the item you won.

I HOPE YOU ENJOY 'TINY TITTIES WHO LOVE ANAL VOL16' AS MUCH AS I DID!!!!

Not much they can do about it

Can you neg him for that?

Sellers can't neg buyers anymore. All he can do is do a non-paying bidder form on him. Three of those and he's banned from eBay.

          That's BS.

That'd why I'm always very careful about eBay. I know clicking on that 'Bid' or 'Buy it Now' button means an obligation. I never bid unless I'm willing to actually pay up.

... It's also lead me to never bid on auctions where I can't get a shipping estimate, as I won an auction for an item once where the price was VERY reasonable, but the shipping ended up being slightly more than the item ><. Whoops. I paid, and I don't really regret the purchase, as even at that price it was a decent buy, but I am more careful about it.

My friend was just sharing his eBay issue with me yesterday.

He understands it was entirely his fault and he felt bad about it...but he says that they are certainly on top of their shit there.

He bid on a DVD set. He won the bid. He was notified about it. At the time he was notified, his bank had just cancelled his debit card because some bank cards issued by his bank were compromised so the bank (a small town/farmer/rural area bank) cancelled all the cards issued to their customers and issued new ones. So, he had to wait until he got his new card to order.

Then, he got his new card and he's an absent-minded, silly man and kept forgetting to activate the card until later in the day when the bank was closed. (remember, small town/farmer/rural area - no 800 number to activate card) Then, he got the card activated and spaced that he owed eBay the money.

He said he felt bad but he learned his lesson that you don't play around with eBay because they contacted him like three times about it.

I've spent a lot of money on E-Bay, especially during the period before I decided to go back to sea (in 2005). Got almost all of my antiquarian newspapers (from the 1600s-1800s) that way. Had only one bad experience, where the seller scammed me. I bought a number of Russian pins, from museums, Russian ships, cities, etc. Each one was about the size of either a dime or a nickle. The guy sent each one separately, for "my convenience," and charged me a shipping price for each pin that equalled or exceeded the pin's sale price. Learned from that one!

I too have spent a great deal of money on eBay. It's a great place to find the unusual or rare things you want. However, I would never buy a designer item, such as Ed Hardy, because 95 % of the stuff on eBay is fake. I'm also glad they hide the names of people who have bid on or won an item. I got fed up with people contacting me offering to buy something from me that I had won. Or worse, someone offering to sell me the same item off site. Never went for that one.

They do that for everything now?

Last time I checked, they hid bidder IDs on items only when the bids hit a certain amount. (I think $150, but don't quote me on that.)

They did it for just the reasons you described. Downside--it becomes much easier to shill-bid.

user names appear with part of their name and asteriks. like: s***9. I noticed that on low bid stuff too.

I bid on something and told the woman it will be 3 days for me to put money in paypal. She said ok. Then she never mailed the stuff so I emailed her and she told me her house caught on fire and her husband was in the hospital. It smelled fishy to me, esp. since she didn't say my stuff didn't burn. Unfortunately, I thought that I had to pay ebay $25 to resolve any paypal dispute, and it was a $10 item, with shipping, so if was past 45 days when I reported it.

Then there was a dvd box set, cheap. The buy it now price was $55 and the shipping was $35. The seller was in Ca. I bought it, paid for it, and at 3am in the morning, I get an email (and I"m asleep)from ebay telling me not to pay, the person's id was compromised. Ended up I got bootleg boxset.

I learned not to pay right away.

The delinquent buyer still has not responsed to the transaction canellation, and I guess the next highest bidder doesn't want it either, because they haven't responded to the Second Chance Offer.

Damn. Now I have to freaking sit on this until the UPI case is closed so I can relist it.

People suck. I hope you can list it again and get mo' money for it. And hopefully douchebag #1 winner doesn't bid again and say, "But I have the need for it now!"

Won't happen if the OP adds them to his blocked bidder list.

Of course, they could just use a second account to bypass the block, but that would be very much against ebay policy.
