  • Empty threats from SC's

    In reading I.P.'s thread,

(Mainly applies here in the US, I'm not sure how it works overseas)
(Maybe someone could share that here as well.)

Bait And Switch was mentioned. That got me to thinking about how many times, I have heard people spout legal nonsense at me. Along with the countless thread on here about the same thing.

I was witness to a customer at the return desk one day. She was making a scene, claiming we had grossly overcharged her. She was screaming "bait and switch" over and over again. I was called up to verify the price of the item in question. The price was acurate. She was irate. She kept saying "I gonna call the Better Business Bereau on you. You'll be in trouble." She calmed down after I showed her the price, on the shelf. She picked up item that maybe another customer set down. She left in a huff.

But that left me wondering, did she really think that would be a way to deal with it, or was it as I suspect, an empty useless threat. Was she saying it in hopes that it would scare us and we would cave.

I mean the BBB is useless, it is only a resource for holding complaints and greivences. They have absolutely no authority at all. The companies buy into the BBB, if you don't join, nothing is kept about you.

If she wanted to have an actual authority involved the Federal Trade Commission would be my choice. I had to contact them once. After trying to get back my money from a company for 4 months with no results, I contacted them about the issue and had it back in 2 days.

    End mild rant.

Every now and then I get threatened with a lawyer, as if that's a credible response to a $10 squabble.

If I were a SC and wanted to make a threat, and really thought a store was doing something illegal, then I'd probably pick my state attorney general's office.

Yeah, I love those legal threats! They're right up there with the threats that they'll put your company out of business.

And of course, the emptiest threat of all:

          "I'm never shopping here again!"

Even if they did carry it out, which they almost never do, we don't care. In fact, we wish they would.

I always prefered "I'll have your job!!!!!!!!!!", myself.

Yeah, go nuts. A trained monkey could do my job, if people wouldn't think it was so unsanitary.

The old 'bait & switch' cry is second only to 'The customer is always right!'.
And they're both quick to nauseate.

Not quite a sucky customer...but I had someone here threaten to kick my ass. I told him to "bring it on." 8 years later, I'm still waiting

Now, I wonder who that could have been? Couldn't have been someone I personally banned 6 or 7 times, could it?

Well, I once had a 12 year old boy threaten to have his mate beat me up cuz I wouldn't sell him alcohol. Maybe it was this kid's parent?

I've heard the "I pay this much $, you better be ready to find another job."

My favorite line: "I know your boss pal, and he's going to hear about you."

And the grand prize winner: "I'm related to the owners (Yeah right,) and if you don't let me in there will be hell to pay."

All my empty threats always involve me going to be in trouble or that I'm going to lose my job.
