Sorry, but no. You don't go to an unopen store and bother the workers.
Agreed on that... On friday there was a lady hanging around outside the entrance doors to my store, we had about 15 minutes til opening. Every two minutes she checked the doors to see *gasp* if they were still locked. (Even though she could see if someone walked up to unlock them.) I was watching her out of the corner of my eye, and she walked out of view.

We have outer doors, a hallway and inner doors, with entrance outer/inner doors on one side and exit outer/inner doors on the other side of the hallway. On each set of doors, there are handles only on one side, the entrance doors have handles on the outside the exit doors on the inside. It's really hard to go backwards against the flow of traffic, so to speak.

    -------- entrance door ----------------------- exit door ---------------

    hallway!

--------entrance door ----------------------- exit door ---------------

    store!

Next thing I know, she's INSIDE the front hallway. The only doors that were unlocked were the exit doors, and that was to let employees in who knew how to manage to open them. She hadn't seen anyone even come in at all, so she went over on her own thinking power and PRIED open the exit doors with her fingers (no handles!) and stood in the hallway tapping on the window until my manager went up to let her in. (By then it was three minutes til opening, so she didn't see any reason to keep her out.)

This really annoyed me and made my manager go when I told her she was in the hallway. Yerg.

    Heehee, I've been quoted!

And wow, desperate woman much? If the doors are locked, there's a REASON for that. It's like they think the restaurant will magically give them whatever they want so long as they crack the mysterious puzzle of how to get in.

*nod* The Rubik's Cube of retail?

That, and the main reason why our doors weren't unlocked yet... there were still cash drawers sitting on the counters, waiting to be put in the registers and movies sitting on the counter without security cases yet.

Not to mention she could've hurt herself trying to pry open the doors and tried to blame the store.

"It's their fault for not opening the door for me!"
"No, it's YOUR fault for being an idiot and trying to get into somewhere that was unsecure, and at that point, trespassing."

I could easily see that police report.

Argh, that reminds me. This morning when I came in to open, there was a literal gaggle of ppl waiting to be let in. I'm talking, 10-12 people at least. C'mon, I know you are getting your tax returns, but damnit, go home!!

Now the woman probably thinks she can do that all the time.

This kind of thing reminds me of the old Mervyn's (may it rest in peace) commercial with the woman standing outside chanting, "Open. Open. Open."
