Wow, didn't quite expect to get such a rise out of you guys--it being my first post and all!

And there is a very good motive for Disney not wanting the reason for the height restriction given out. If someone gets injured, they can claim in their lawsuit that there was a design flaw in the seatbelt that Disney knew of and did not corect
Dead on South Texan. We also weren't allowed to talk about the mechanics of the ride because that would be "taking away from the magic" (their words, not mine)

This is just funny to me now, as it happened about 2-3 years ago. I lasted at CA for 6 months. Same ammount of time i lasted at Knott's Berry Farm. People drive me crazy

And there is a very good motive for Disney not wanting the reason for the height restriction given out. If someone gets injured, they can claim in their lawsuit that there was a design flaw in the seatbelt that Disney knew of and did not corect. Juries tend to give out bigger damage awards when the big, rich company knew of a problem at the time of the injury.
And that is ridiculous! I could see Disney being sued because the height restriction was not followed, but not for it being a 'design flaw'. Obviously, the ride is designed for adults, not little children. Therefore, the seatbelt serves the purpose for which it is designed. So long as children smaller than the height requirement are not permitted on the ride, there should be no problem.

But of course, that's America. Everything is everyone else's fault, and god forbid we have some safety restrictions...sheesh.

One "lady" called me a bitch because I wouldn't let her son on the bumpercars.
Yeah, "lady," real classy right there!!! You don't care about your kid's safety AND you show them it's OK to use foul language to a perfect stranger when you can't get what you want. Mother of the Year right there

I wonder if I were a meaner person I would get rewarded for it too...

Ditchdj, it's not the brats that are causing the problems, it's the spawners of the brats. I didn't see a word printed where the kids were whining, just the parents. In any case, one parent could have stayed on the ground with the little one while the other parent and the appropriately sized kid could have still gone on for the ride. No big deal, that's what we did when I was little....

According to her, I ruined her son's day because it was his only wish all day long to get to ride the bumpercars.
When people complain about not being able to do something/having to wait...I would love to tell them...

"Oh yes, you are so special, I planned it this way. Just to ruin YOUR day!"

Oh trust me I know all about that. I work in education and I know for a fact that having these kind of "kids" in class is certainly no bed of roses, especially when we're expected to do what the parents choose not to and that is to "control" their kids.

My favorite amusement park is a smallish operation in southern New Hampshire. Admission price is based on height, not age. So children and short adults who can't ride the "good" rides pay a lot less.

Not only is this fair, it is also much more scam proof than age. It's kind of hard to lie about your height. It also ensures that customers who are too short for a ride won't get much sympathy if they cry entitlement. Yes, you get less, so we charged you less. End of story.

Another lovely thing about this park is that they don't put up with customer bullcrap. If a customer uses an obscenity on a ride or in line for that ride, they are banned from that ride for the rest of the day. I've seen this happen. 99% of the time the customer doesn't believe it and tries to get on the ride within minutes of the banning. I can't tell you how much it warms my cold heart to see them find out what "banned" means the hard way.

This is just about the best idea ever and I wish more amusement parks charged this way. I doubt it would clear up all of the SGs (sucky guests - amusement park customers are guests ) though. I bet people will still try to get their small children on rides they are too short to ride yet.

So does it charge less admission for pregnant ladies who can't go on as many of the rides? 'Cause otherwise I'm stuck paying full-price. Dang 5'11" height....

They charge around one price (I think it's around $25) for people under 65 who are over 48 inches. People under 48 inches and or over 65 pay less (I think it's around $17). I don't know if they have any exclusions for pregnancy, medical conditions, etc. My guess is they don't.

I guess it's one of those policies which is pretty fair, but not 100% fair. Kind of like life.

Heck, now the Six Flags parks have warning signs on ALL their rides stating that pregnant women should not attempt to ride them. This includes the carousel/merry-go-round!

I guess the fear of lawsuits has done this, but it really looks silly to have those ominous signs (warning people who have heart conditions, back problems or are pregnant not to ride) at the entrance to what is considered to be a very calm, mild ride designed for even small children to enjoy.
