Today, a couple came in with their little girl. At the till they decided they didn't want a book. The little girl grabbed it, said "I'll put it back", and did so. She was probably too young to alphabetize it correctly but the children's section is such a mess it doesn't matter. I thought it was so sweet I gave her some early Halloween candy.

During my tenure as a server, I made sure I always told parents who had well-behaved children, "thank you!" Nothing made me happier than a child who knew to say "please" and "thank you" and not talk with their mouths full and knew how to sit in the chair and didn't run all over the place.
The parents loved to hear it and I am sure that they appreciated the fact that I praised the behavior in front of the children."I'm still walking, so I'm sure that I can dance!" from Saint of Circumstance - Grateful Dead

May my children actually listen to what I try to instill in them and behave like that, rather than those I hear screaming for candy in Wal-Mart."Enough expository banter. It's time we fight like men. And ladies. And ladies who dress like men. For Gilgamesh...IT'S MORPHING TIME!"

When I worked at ThePortraitStudioFromHell, I dealt with waaaaay too many bratty kids on a daily basis. Thankfully (unfortunately for this site), I have blocked many of those experiences from my memory.
However, I do remember one family in particular with two very good children, a 4 yo girl and a 2yo boy (or thereabouts). The mom apologized profusely when dad had to take the boy outside for a little talking to when he was being obnoxious when we were looking at photos. I told her to please stop, thank you for teaching your children how to behave properly and respect. Just that morning we had a five year old standing on our lego table throwing blocks at the babies - his mom didn't do a damned thing and gave my coworker a dirty look when she made him get down. Sheesh. I loved the first family though!

heh. I worked at two PortraitStudiosFromHell myself. I always thanked the guests who had wonderfully behaved children, and made it a point to praise the children themselves. I still do that wherever I see well behaved children!
So nice to hear a story about a good little girl who cleans up after herselfI will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK
