Guest: yea Dave, I got my paperwork and I am upset that I wasnt given my return renter discount when I booked

Me: no problem I can apply that for you

Guest: ok (then an awkward moment of silence) No Dave, thats not the point. The point is why wasnt I given the discount when I booked

Me: did you ask for the discount?

Guest: ask for it? How dare you....I shouldnt have to beg for something you're supposed to give me. I am just shocked at the way I am being treated like a second class citizen here. I rent with you people all the time and you tell me I cant have a discount unless I ask for it.

Me: ma'am, I gave you the discount

Guest: it is the principal, Dave. Your tone was very harsh and you told me I cant get a discount unless I ask for it. I have never been treated this shabbily by anyone. You have horrible customer service. Just horrible.

She called and got one of my coworkers and was crying on the phone about how I insulted her and she wants compensated for it somehow........ugggg, they never quit

Ooof. This one I'm torn on. As usual, her attitude puts me in your favor. That wasn't nice. Especially the "second class citizen" remark, that bugs me for some reason.

On the other hand, I can see her point. If she qualifies for a discount, she should get the discount applied automatically, unless it specifically states that she needs to ask for it. I'm not sure how your company handles it.

Still. Making co-workers cry? She FAILS. That was NOT okay.

I could understand her being upset if Dave had refused to give the discount to her, but he fixed the problem once she made the complaint. I mean, what's the worse that she can complain about? That she spent a few minutes on the phone(although it would have been much shorter if she hadn't decided to go on a rant)?

She's getting a return renter discount, which I'm guessing means she gets money back simply because she's rented before. If all I have to do to get free money is say "Hey, I'm so and so, please give me some free money" I'll do so with a smile on my face.

Whether she's supposed to get the discount automatically or VRS's CW forgot to apply almost seems besides the point; she got it as soon as she asked for it and still found something to complain about. Having to spend an extra 15 seconds of her life to ask for the discount falls under the heading of "non-issue" - at least if she's an adult.

And I agree with other posters: it seems like the SC was looking for a fight and once VRS took away her main reason for whining, she found something else to complain about - silly as it was.

I would also think that - unless the system automatically keeps track of such things - VRS and his coworkers would need to be told that the customer IS a returning renter. Hence the need to ask for the discount.
