Saturday was the day from hell, both before and during the time I was in work. Afterwards was fine, after it was all done and dusted. We had loads of complaints. No idea why, I suppose it was an influx of EWs. One thing in particular really got to me though, because if it's one thing I dislike, is grown people sulking. There was a man waiting at the tills. I had a spare minute so I went over to take his payment.
Me: Hi there, are you waiting to pay?
SC: Yes.
Me: Ok, no problem. Whereabouts were you sitting?
SC motions to a table. I find the number and read out what is on the check.
Me: Ok, so that was x, x and x?
SC: *grunting more than speaking* Yeah
Me: That'll be £x.xx then please.
SC hands over his money and as I've just pushed the button to show it's been paid...
SC: Your manager did say I wouldn't be paying for x, because I waited a while. But NEVER MIND NOW. (Imagine if you will, the voice drenched with as much attitude as humanly possible).
Me: Oh, I'm so sorry...I um, didn't know. If you'd said I could have got the manager, but I can give you back the money that item x cost and sort it with her la....
SC: Forget it. I'm taking the complaint further anyway so I'd like the number for head office.
Me: No problem. I don't have it at the moment so I'll have the manager write it down for you.
He humphs a bit, but I've gone by this point. I told the manager but she was so busy she couldn't get to it straight away. Some of the ard machines had gone down, leaving us with just one for people to pay on and she was stationed there with a huge queue.
In the end, the guy walked out just as she walked up to him to hand him the number. So he effectively paid more than he should have because he wanted to complain further...then left before getting the means to complain any further. People make my head hurt.
