  • What a piece of work this one was...

In an earlier thread I posted about a guy who was upset because he bought a used PS3 from our store that was missing the plastic part that covers up the memory card readers (this was an older PS3 that had the readers). Of course this missing part does not affect the performance of the unit in any way.

The guy called back upset about the missing piece and wanted a discount (on something he'd already PAID for mind you) and then when my manager refused he wanted a $50 gift card. Manager said no to that one either and told him he could return the console for a refund or exchange but that was it.

You'd think that would end it but no...get a load of this chain of events:

    1) SC goes to return the PS3 at a different store (still wanting the discount) and claims our store told him we couldn't do a return on the unit (blatant lie. I was standing beside my manager when he took the call and he most certainly told him it could be returned).

    2) Manager of other store refuses return, tells him to come back to our store. (because SC claimed we told him he could return it there and get a discount)

    3) Manager of other store calls our store to bitch at us about refusing the return and allegedly telling the SC he could get a disount, then gets pissed when informed of SC's lies.

    4) SC complains to corporate, our DM calls our store and tells us SC will be coming by to do the return at our store and to deal with it as necessary. A full investigation will be made regarding the complaint.

    5) The SC alleges the following things in his complaint.

    - The staff at my particular store is incompetent
    - We knowingly sold him a "damaged" unit
    - We were uncooperative about the return (Bullshit, we told him straight-up he could return to it us) and gave him a runaround.
    - That we have some of the worst customer service he's ever seen

And of course he is demanding "adequate compensation for the difficulties"

Now I don't know this how the story ended because by the time I left work two days ago, he hadn't shown up to do the return. Hopefully I'll have an update tomorrow but I know this particular SC was even seriously pissing off our DM with his lies, misstatements and general suckiness over something SO RIDICULOUSLY MINOR in the first place.

With any luck he won't get anything from us but his money back. If he gets anything extra, I'm going to personally complain to DM about it.

Does this guy have a way to get a replacement for the missing piece? Sure, it might not change how the unit works, but it'd protect the readers from dust getting in, and I'm sure it changes how it looks. And even if it was inconsequential, most people get pissed if they pay for something and it isn't as promised.

I hate hate HATE when management gives a knee-jerk reaction like that.

I mean geez, could you at least listen to BOTH sides before reaming someone a new one?

Isn't it great when SCs lie to try to get what they want? Even if you are doing everything in your power tom serve them?

Sure--exchange it for a different one.

I really fucking hate people who think something is damaged enough to be discounted, but not damaged enough to be considered defective. It isn't the OP's problem the customer refused the exchange.

With something like that, I'd consider it defective and write it off if we can't get it fixed. Even though it's a minor thing, it may keep coming back and getting resold and then coming back again.

Stupidity, Falsehood, Ignorance, and Idiocy shall not go rewarded.

I'd tell that SC to take his PS3 and stick it up his ass.

When we purchased our PS3, refurbished, the thing had scratches all over it (nothing deep). I suppose we could have taken it back and traded for a different one .. but hey, that takes away valuable playing time. I bought the unit to play, not to look at ....

The PS3 in question is a 60GB backwards compatible model. These are not sold new anymore and quite popular on the secondhand market. It's rare we have more than one in stock (or even ANY in stock) at a particular time.

An exchange would have been somewhat difficult, though if he hadn't been such a jackass about everything we probably could've worked something out with him.
