The place I work at, I start work at 5 AM and work roughly 9 hours.
I just had 5 days off, so I was actually in a very good mood. Sorry for the longness of the post.
Around 5:45, there are only two of us working, we get hit with the coffee rush. So regardless of how diligent we are with making coffee, we can't make the machines run any faster. They brew batches in either 4 minutes or 5 minutes. If your in a hurry ask for a "watered down espresso drink" and we'll charge you for a coffee in the same size.
First customer that unfortunately came in when we ran out of bold coffee, however he was a dear and was very nice and understanding. So I gave him his coffee for free and gave him a free drink for next time. I do reward nice customers.
Then about 5 customers after that we are out of bold again, trying very hard to make that coffee back so that we don't inconvenience you at all with the wait time, or the fact that we have someone on "espresso grinding and puck forming machine" who isn't on it a lot and I felt needed some practice.
This customer asks for an "extra large" coffee, bold. Of course he did.
The cashier politely tells him that we're currently trying to brew a fresh batch and that we can offer him a "watered down espresso drink". He immediately then claims that this happens every time. No it doesn't, because I'm a magician at making and keeping coffee. However I was dealing with the pastry order and talking to the AM, and therefore the coffee magic was not happening by me.
And after she apologies, he asks "Well just give me one of those damn card things. You still have those free drink cards right?"
She replies "Yes".And sort of glares at him.
He then proceeds to move down the line to get his drink.
I'm currently looking over the pastry orders seeing what I can get in the next day, and what I need to reduce ect. This is an important part of running this store.
He proceeds to then snaps his fingers at me. I'm sorry if you want my attention, you don't snap your fingers at me. This is considered very rude in my books, and your not going to get my loving award winning smile and beautiful customer service. Like I said, I reward nice people. And they notice.
SC: Hey *snaps fingers again even though I'm looking at him.. sourly* I want one of those things. *You're going to have to be more informative then that buddy* You know the free drinks. You didn't have the bold coffee.
Me: Yes we have those still... *glares and he notices*
SC: well I want one.
Unfortunately, we have to give them one, otherwise they call up headquarters and HQ attempts to do customer recovery. Which yes is important, but it's mostly ass hates that pull this lovely trick. And they get a $50 store credit.
Me: I hand him the recovery coupon. Glaring at him because he was rude and obnoxious.
SC: Well thanks *attempting to be funny* that's very considerate. *attempts to laugh*
I glare, mutter whatever, and walk away.
I know this wasn't the best way to deal with it. But I'm up at 3:30 am to get to work for 5 am. Yes, I'm going to have down moments. But snapping your fingers and demanding free drink coupons is not the way to get my nice award winning loving smile that I always give.. because it's normally genuine... I love most of my regular customers.
They are awesome, and actually care about our well being.
I hate the randoms. I really really do.
And then after this lovely little annoyance. In comes the lady that decided to have a fight with me. So this one was in January.
We have this "benefit" that if you buy 1lb. coffee and you have a "company card" that's registered with the $5 minimum *this is very important* on said card, you get a free coffee.
SC= Witch of a woman.
Me:
CW = one of my trusty side kicks.
SC walks up to the counter with her "asian roasted" coffee. " I will take this. I have a registered card. I want a bold coffee "of the largest size".
Me: I start ringing up the coffee beans "May I please see the card to swipe from the benefits?
SC hands over the card
I swipe the card through. And it denies. Of course it does. *Sighs*
Me: I'm sorry but there is no money on this.
SC: I know. *Gives me this I'm right glare. yes you are right, there is not money on it*
Me: well you have to have a minimum of $5 on to get the benefits.
SC: *gets all up in a snit* WELL, I've been coming here for years! *good for you? Want a cookie?* and it does not state that anywhere on the web. I've looked *ooh someone's been doing their homework. Lose the attitude and I might be impressed*
Me: Well it does actually state that on the website *I give the exact location on the site*, and we have these little information packets *hand her one* that explain that you have to have a $5 minimum balance to get any of the benefits. However I will give it to you this one time. However in future occurrences, this will not happen again.
SC: I don't want no damn information packet. And NO it's NOT on the site.
Me: Ma'am. I don't know what to tell you out of what I already informed you of. If you have a complaint please contact the HQ and they will help you with your problem. Otherwise, you will only get this coffee free, this one, and only time.
SC mutters fine darkly that we are not that informative etc etc.
After I'm done dealing with her order, she then tells me that I was very rude and needs to be trained better to know my job properly. I tell her that's her opinion, but not everyone agrees with her. And she leaves.
I'm the only shift at my store that has a back bone. Its' irritating when the others don't do as regulations state. UGH!
And she came in today. I left the floor because she pissed me off.
