A sucky complainer who came around and a sucky non-customer, really.
I was at the Info desk the other night when I heard a man nearby say, "You sold THIS to my 17-year-old!" I peer around the desk to see a man confronting my manager, B. Now, B is an incredibly smooth talker. They talked for a long time (no eavesdropping since I was busy) and eventually the complaining man left, at which point I sidled up to B to get the gossip. I assumed it was a sex book that was sold, and I was correct.
Now, most 17-year-old girls today look like they're at least 25, and we're not about to card everyone who's buying sex books. I mentioned this to B, who said, "Oh, but the 17-year-old in question is male, 6"3, a 225-pound football player, and has a beard thicker than mine."
It seems the young man's father had found these books in his son's room, and marched in to complain. But by the end of the conversation with B, he'd turned his anger on his son and his son's girlfriend (a preacher's daughter, he said, which made it more shocking- apparently he's never heard the stereotypes), and here's why.
After a few moments, B said, the man realized that it wasn't really our fault (probably after describing his son to B) and wanted to return the books, 3 of them. B returned the first 2, then saw that the 3rd one, while we carried it, had never been sold from our store. The man called his son, who said he'd bought 2 of the books and his girlfriend had gotten the 3rd one.
Yep, the preacher's daughter had not only procured a sex book, but had STOLEN it from us.
I kind of want to know what happened after the man got home that night...
