  • But WHY *whine*

I wanted to pull my hair out with this woman. She ran her card through the ATM as a Point of Sale. Normally this option usually appears when you have gone over your daily limit. Now, the machine's limit can be lower than what your bank approves, so that causes problems also or the person accidentally just picks POS on the screen because they won't read it! Nor do they pay attention when they agree to the fee's.

SC: Why do I have to get my money up here?

Me: *looks at receipt* Looks like you ran it as a POS.

SC: Why did it charge me 4.99? Usually its $3.

Me: Usually when you go over your daily limit the screen will automatically ask you if you want to proceed and it will turn it into a POS.

SC: My limit is 400 and I have not gone over it.

Me: Well, you may have chosen the option when the choices appeared...

There is no way around it, SHE hit the buttons and she agreed to everything. She pulled out a hundred dollars.

SC: THis has never happened before! Why are you charging me so much!?

ME: *sigh* (honestly half the time I am unsure why this happens but it has something to do with the daily limit or they just pressed the wrong button)

SC: Am I going to be charged on this? Can I cancel?

Me: You already accepted the fee. But if you like this transaction will cancel out in a few hours but it will take a bit to go back to your card.

SC: No. I want my damn 100. WHY did this happen?? It has never happened before.

I am to the point where I just want to scream. At some point I think I just told her I didn't know why it happened.

I think it was the way she was talking to me that annoyed me more than anything else. Like I was personally at fault for what happened. And kind of like I was an idiot for not knowing why it exactly happened. If I were an atm tech, I'd letcha know.

It went on for quite awhile. SHe finally just said okay and had me process the rest of the transaction.

ME: Now if it happens again, when you get to the screen where it tells you that you are going to be charged more than three dollars hit CANCEL and start over.

    SC: I can do that!?

Me: Yes. Have a good day.

She finally left. I didn't know how many ways I could explain it. I don't own the ATM, I don't know why it does half of the crazy shit it does, I am a cashier. GRROWL.

    .
Yeah. She definitely does not read...but then again, most SCs don't. Especially ones that are possibly feeding an addiction.

I always pay attention to the screen that tells me how much it charges. I have to add $2 to that amount as well because my bank charges me $2 on top of whatever the ATM charges when I don't use an ATM supported by my bank.

Customers scream at the cashier when the card reader goes bonkers or they don't operate it like it says. It's NOT the cashier's fault!

Not only that, (correct me if I'm wrong in this case, Anakah) but in Vegas the casino ATM's are owned and operated by unaffiliated banks. Cashiers and the cage management, for that matter, would have no control over this matter and the fees.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

And all this huff over a mere $2 difference.

Of course they do. We are supposed to know everything and fix their problem with a snap of our fingers. If we don't magically come up with a solution and we have to get someone else to help us out, they think we are idiots or are not being very helpful.
Happens quite often at my store. They get mad all because I politely direct them to someone else who can help them, or because I don't come up with the answer they want to hear in 2 seconds. To them, its the cashier's fault. Unfortunately, us cashiers have the unpleasant experience of dealing with every customer. As a cashier, the chances are a whole lot higher that you will have a sucky customer.

Yeah the ATMS are an outside company and we can't even put an out of order sign on them when they are not working. We have to call the company and it takes them like hours to come down and fix things.
