  • It's not a hickey!

Ok the customers weren't being sucky, but just a bit annoying. I have the misfortune of having a mosquito bite on my neck and it looks like a hickey! I've had only some male customers say things like "o0o0o you have hickey. You've been bad." Along the lines of that. I know that they are joking. I am not upset over it, but I think it was a tad little annoying when I explain it's a mosquito bite. You can't win though. If it is a hickey, you can't win and if it's a mosquito bite, it still is a hickey. At least the customers who were doing this were regulars and who are on first name basis with me instead of random customers who I don't know.

I have a coworker who is very fair skinned (well then again, who in Wisconsin isn't naturally that way?) and when she gets either extremely excited or extremely irritated, she gets these rashes all over her neck, her chest area....well pretty much anywhere you can see exposed skin. I dated a guy like that, too. I used to get that too, until I started going tanning and got really dark skinned. It almost looks like the type of rashes you get from scratching yourself too much, too hard.

Yeah Blas, I get that too. Usually around the neck area, though I can get it around the arms and chest area also. It also happens if I'm tired (like after lunchtime) or go out into the cold. Yeah, love when people ask what's wrong.

On another note, I have a small red mole on my cheek. Been there since I was little and a pair of glasses I used to have would rub over it in the summertime. Because having a chafing, bleeding mole on my face was a wee bit uncomfortable, I would occasionally sport a small bandaid to protect it from injury. Well one afternoon a little boy asked what the bandaid was for. Before I could even respond, his grandma shushed him and said "It's a zit, honey. You don't ask questions like that". She seemed rather unconcerned when I explained it was NOT a zit, thank you very much. Grrr

I believe it's the female mosquito that bites so you've been bad and experimenting.

My face cleanser sometimes dries out the skin on my neck a little, so it gets red. I got crap like that ALL the time from my ex-CWs.

Good thing I left, cause I'd rather not become prone to volence.

At least it will go away. I have a small birthmark on my neck that looks like a hickey. I am very careful to cover it up but some days i forget and I get all sorts of comments.

Hell the one time I had a hickey people asked me about my 'rash' told the ex he had to do it over again. He didn't think it was so funny.

Anybody who mocks any aspect of your appearance is sucky. It doesn't matter if it's a hickey, mosquito bite, birthmark or mole. It's your skin, not theirs, and not any of their damned business.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

It's completely out of line to comment on the appearance of a person stranger. I could never imagine doing that. People have a lot of nerve.

I once had a hickey that covered the entire left side of my neck, front and side. It hurt to breathe, literally. Co-workers were horrified, but I have absolutely no shame when it comes to that. People are WAY too concerned with other folks and their bizness.

I honestly don't think it's a big deal. I've had them before. My mother gets so mad at me for it. I understand it shows, but the way people freak out about it is like I had sex with multiple people or something.

I once had a mole cut off my neck (the path test came back all-clear).

At the time I was a shy fifteen year old virgin. Didn't even know what a hickey WAS! Need I mention what people said?

                          1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
                          2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                          3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                          4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

I can certainly share the frustration there!

~I have a big scar that is noticeable when I am wearing summery clothes. I do not mind if a friend or a colleague asks me about it, but when complete strangers (i.e. customers) ask me about it (and never politely or quietly mind you), then it pisses me right off. I don't ask what is wrong with your physical appearance........

~I had some spider veins removed from my face, just below my eye, with a laser. The laser destroyed the veins, but left a bruise. That is just a magnet for people who can't seem to mind their own damn business.
