So tonight i was up front at the register getting my coworker some change. then all of a sudden a woman starts handing me her crumpled up coupons.

sc: here could you throw these out for me, they're expired
me: (wtf--grumbles on the inside) oh, ok
sc: you guys should have a garbage for us (customers)
me (thinking)...yea actually, those two large barrels you see when you walk outside, juuuuuuuuuust for you! cant miss em

tonight it seemed like it was the night for things 'ringing up wrong'

the best one was some guy bought something and though it was 2 dollars cheaper, my co worker goes to check the price. the sign is just comparing the name brand to the store brand

cw: did you want the <store> brand instead?
    sc: no that's fine

ok, so you complain that it 'wrung up wrong' and you could get the store brand cheaper, but rather still pay that extra 2 dollars, what was the point of all this?

    i wanna go on break

i made the wrong choice of what line to get into, well sorta. one guy was covering for another cw for just a few minutes so i got in his line. other cw comes back and takes next person. then people who weren't yet in line, got into the new, short line, loves it. so im stuck in this line. but figured whatever, both lines are the same length. well i chose wrong. the lady in front of me had 'issues' thinking something was buy one get one half off, and it wasn't. so then she has coupons, and then is searching fore money blah blah. i actually said to one of my co workers walking by, "i chose the wrong line" i finally got over in the other line and was rung out promptly

wasn't either co workers faults, just the stupid slow lady who couldn't read or count

Most customers would crap themselves if they knew it's often made by the same producer.

Hee. My boyfriend works for a label company, and yes one place will order 3-different labels for their 3-different products. All 3-made by the same company, all with the same ingredients, but people think that product 1 is waaaayyy better than product 3.

A side story about the trash; I was at work and on my way through the parking lot saw this guy sitting in his car, throw trash out of his driver's window. I stopped, came-up in front of his car as he tried to make a break from his parking spot. He said 'yes?' I said 'yes, you can pick-up that trash you just threw out your window.' He grumbles and gets out of his car and picks-up the stuff he threw out, talking about all the other trash in the parking lot and how it should get cleaned up. He gets back in his car and shouts 'have a nice day!' I smiled and left. I mean, what, was his sporty Escalade too pretty to be subjected to having a plastic bag for garbage in it? Could he not have thrown his trash in one of the 2-barrels flanking the doors he left the store through? He was setting a great example for his child in the back seat.

It was a small piece of trash, perhaps I was being petty, but we DO have a policy against dumping and it does not define exactly how MUCH they have to dump for it to be illegal

I mean depending on WHAT it is I'll go namebrand (like.. electronics or something really pricy). but i got a friend who does NOT have a good job (makes a few $ over min. wage/hr).

now he never went to college so to try to help save him money i gave him my 'starving student' diet tips lol.

anyways he ONLY buys name brand food... I dont get it.. I guarentee. 'store brand' noodles are going to taste identical to the 'name brand' ones that cost $1.50 more per bag once you cook em.

Amazing how SC never find the many garbage cans we proved for them and use the floor, shelves, coolers/freezers, whatever they can find. Next to the coffee area in our bakery we have a "condiment" section on a separate counter with the milk and half and half, sugar, sweeteners, stirrers, etc. We also have a trash can right next to it, literally inches away.

Often times I find open sugar packs thrown all over, used stirrers tossed on the counter and my favorite the above tossed in the containers of the unopened sugar packets forcing us to throw a who container in the trash because coffee is not dripped all over it.

Some days it seem like half of them are used and half are thrown out.

I had always heard -- and sometimes observed -- that no place on any given beach has more litter lying around it than the (nowhere near full) trash cans...

Reminds me of the day I got in line behind the store manager when I went on my 15 minute and only break. He held up the line for 10 minutes trying to find his discount card. I gave myself an extra 15 minutes for having to deal with that.

The only thing I will disagree on here is Kraft original mac & cheese. I have never found a generic brand that matches it for flavor. Velveeta mac, on the other hand, can amazingly be made by melting velveeta cheese into hot pasta...who'da thunk?

++ to that. Kraft Mac & Cheese or nothing. Except maybe Velveeta Shells & Cheese, if I'm feeling too lazy to mix the milk, butter, etc. into the deal.

How is it that Kraft can taste so lousy if you don't mix the ingredients in the right way, but taste so yummy when you do it right? =O_o=

Word on the Kraft mac n' cheese. I won't buy any other brand. Same with Heinz Ketchup. If it isn't Heinz, I'm not buying it.

Yeah. A buddy of mine worked for a vegetable processing plant out in Washington state whose lines handled several different U.S. and Japanese brands. The difference is in the level of quality control for each client. The Japanese clients are notoriously picky, right down to how the packaging is sealed. The difference between a U.S. national brand like Green Giant and a store brand for Safeway, Wal-mart, or Target is negligible.

Speaking of crapping oneself: "Depends" brand adult diapers are better than the CVS brand because the store brand doesn't sew as many elastics into the stretchy part, so they don't stay up my grandfather's big belly and the waistband rips a lot easier when someone pulls them up for him. Other than that, the two brands are very similar.

Sometimes generics ARE made with the same INGREDIENTS but certain steps in the process are left out in order to bring down manufacturing costs.

Out local 7-Eleven's now have their brand snack type items, potato/corn chips, flavored popcorn varieties, and best of all little, chocolate doughnuts. They are all good. Different but good.

What sucks is that there is no rule to when the generic going to be as good as the name brand. A lot of times the generic will be a watered down version, Sometimes there is a little less in the package. Sometimes it is just a cosmetic difference.

My list of products where I've not been able to find a good generic.

                          Coke Zero.
                          Hormel no beans Chili.
                          Fritos.

Some will refuse to believe it even when told by the vendor or by the store employees that the name brand stuff is the same thing as $GENERICPRODUCT, just with a different label on it.

I got to observe the latter, at the supermarket I work at. Our store brand of milk is relabeled Pet brand milk, but one customer insisted, even when told of the equivalency (save the price, of course), that the name brand stuff was better than store brand.

Fortunately, I was able to resist the urge to shout out "IT COMES FROM THE SAME DAMN COWS AND GOES THROUGH THE SAME DAMN PROCESSING EQUIPMENT, YOU STUPID TWIT!", as it would probably have ended in frustration and premature balding (from ).

                            -----

And on a lighter note, ditto what others have said about generic vs Kraft Mac & Cheese. There are some other things that differ, but that and store brand soda using the Pepsi formulas are probably the biggest sticking points for the notion that it all tastes the same.

I'd add Cheetos and Cheerios to the list, too.

On very rare occasion, you can find the generic tastes better than the name brand. I rather like Hy-Top's string cheese better than the name brands. Trader Joe's versions of Oreos and Smartfood popcorn are cheaper and taste better than their counterparts, too.
