  • "The ATM's broken!"

Apparently our ATM is broken because of the following reasons:

-it only lets you take out $300 maximum per transaction.
    -it doesn't take deposits.
-it doesn't let you transfer money between accounts.
-your bank may charge fees when you use it.

I suggest fixing it by making customers go to the bank to do their banking.

Honestly, it's an ATM in a convenience store! It's mostly there so the local junkies can get out their last $50 to pay for a hit. (I wish that was a joke)

$50 a hit?! They're either getting amazingly good shit or severely ripped off.

OK, SC's, listen to me carefully.

      1. The limit is to prevent thieves from withdrawing thousands out at a time. Also, edible, the maximum is $300 a day, not $300 per transaction as far as I Know. So you can spend $100 at one place, $100 at another, $100 at another and that's it.
      2. The only places I've ever seen ATMs that take deposits are located on the side of their nearest bank branch.
      3. Have these people NOT heard of internet or phone banking?!
      4. People are stupid.

For number 4, I live in the same state as OP and just a bit of background: if you use your own bank's ATM, there may be a small charge (usually about $1.50) but if you use another bank's ATM, you are charged about $2 for a balance enquiry and up to an extra $10 for withdrawals and this is shown on the screen.

$1.50 to use YOUR OWN BANKS ATM? Holy dancing Elvis on a string.

In NZ it costs NOTHING to use your own banks ATMs for balances etc, and a small change to withdraw funds (my bank the maximum is NZ$0.40...so US$0.20ish). If you use another banks atm the charge is NZ$0.75 (standard between all banks)

ETA: Also the maximum in NZ is $2000 (so around US$1000) in cash per day (ATM's and Cashback) plus up to $2500 in purchases on a EFTPOS card (which doubles as your atm card)

This is why I love being a member of a credit union... I can quite literally deposit almost anywhere, including 7-11 fee free at the ATM
          Same with withdrawals

Sorry, I should've been clearer. I don't know about the other banks, but on my own bank, it costs nothing for balance enquiries, transfers and a few other things if they're being done between these bank accounts, it costs $1.50 to withdraw from my OWN bank's ATM, but from others it can be anywhere from $2-$10

                Even so...youch!

A buck fifty to take cash out...wow. My account costs nothing to do anything electronic (ATM, EFTPOS, phone or internet banking) and NZ$3.00 (so about US$1.50) to do withdrawls through staff or cheques. Add 75c onto anything where there is another banks ATM involved.

I have NEVER heard of a place that charges their own customers for using their ATM's

I think what he meant was that his bank charges the customers of other banks $1.50.

Wow you guys get charged to use your own banl's ATM's?

Around here (Florida), the 2 major banks offer free ATM transactions for their customers, and usually YOUR bank won't charge you for using another bank's ATM (though the other bank might), the most I've ever seen for a service charge was $2.50.

$1.50 or $2.00 to take out money from an ATM? Hah! Try taking it out at an ATM when you go to a club. They charge $6 or $7.
As for being able to take out only a maximum of $300, did any of these idiot customers think to take the max out at 1 ATM, then go to another if they need more? Of course not, that's why we call them Sucky Customers.

That wouldn't work here, my bank only allows $300 ATM withdrawals per day, and y more and you need to go inside.

                          Doesn't matter if I take $300 from 1 ATm or $150 from 2.

Also, the club I go to doesn't have an ATM, there's one about half a block away that charges $2.50 per transaction... and until my bank decided to stop charging ATM fees, it cost me $4 if I used it. Though, I never do... I make sure I have cash before going downtown, just in case

Not every bank does that. I've only ever been charged the fee when using an ATM other than my own bank's.

There was a stink in the UK about banks charging fees for ATM withdrawls, so they stopped, mostly. ATMs in convenient locations, such as pubs, corner shops (convenience stores) and <the cinema> charge a fee.
