Yes, ma'am. I understand that you feel that the price for the jacket you admired was 'too high'. Yes, I agree that everyone has felt the pinch in the pocketbook and has to 'tighten the belt' as you say. Nope, sorry. We won't be having a sale on those soon.

Perhaps if you weren't standing there in your triple processed hair, swathed in your too tight, multiple layered Ho*lister tees and True R*ligion jeans tucked into your U*gs with your diva french manicure tips wrapped around your $5 Overly sweetened, whipped cream topped Farbucks drinks you are sucking down in front of me, I might care.

    But I don't.

Yeah, I get those too. "Whyyyy is my dog food so expeeeensiiiive?!??!" right before they drive away in a Lexus that is about a quarter the size of my HOUSE.

Also, their dogs are eating better than I AM.

    No sympathy. None.

The people who really are struggling right now - and I know who they are, among our regulars - never ask for discounts or whinge about the prices. Their animals are family members, not status symbols. That makes a real difference in attitude...

Yep. Same goes for shoplifters. They always have cash to pay after they get caught.

It's not just rich people it seems; everyone has a sense of entitlement these days.

I get that all the time in the flower industry and usually from rich little old ladies living somewhere expensive like Miami Beach, NYC, Palm Beach or *insert name of any pricey enclave* who suddenly bust out an AmEx platinum or coveted black AmEx after being told that the price is the price is the price and there are no discounts at all.

Shoplifters tend to be in it for the thrill, the adrenalin rush and the bragging rights.

See, that's the problem. They're in debt up to their eyeballs. They just want you the THINK they have money.

I was building a new deck on my house and had to have the power moved from where it entered the house. (They actually did that for free, color me surprised.) One of the people from the power company had a pager and it went off and she had to go to a ritzy part of town to cut off a non-pays service. (We talking a neighborhood of $500,000 to $1 mil. houses) When she returned, she was laughing. Seems this was the 3rd time in 6 months they'd cut the power. They had a huge house, one Mercedes, two total beater cars and the house was empty except for some plastic lawn furniture. If either the wife or the husband missed work, they had to decide whether to pay the mortgage or the utilities. Talk about being house poor.

The people two doors up from my parents were like that. They spent roughly twice what their house was worth...fixing it up, and buying assorted vehicles. Then they had to sell said vehicles when their credit turned to shit...and they got foreclosed on.

Why did the house cost so much? Simple. The previous owner let it fall apart, and was using it to store junk. Very little maintenance was done to it--the siding was falling off, there were plants growing up through the screened-in deck, lots of junk and furniture rotting in the back yard, etc. Oh, and I heard that there were weeds growing out of the floors in some of the rooms too In other words it would have been cheaper to simply knock the place down and start over.

As to the vehicles, they had more...than I have models in my collection. They had a full-size Dodge pickup, SUV, one or two motorcycles, a car, plus a jet ski. All of the items, except for the car and jet skis...had been customized in some way. Either new wheels, paint, or body kits.

For awhile, they got away with living like that. Then, the husband lost his job...forcing him to sell off most of the toys. Their finances were apparently so fucked up, it wasn't surprising when they lost the house

Well how do you think they pay for that crap? By trying to rip off everyone else!
