We have agreements with other university libraries in the state to lend books out to their students and vice versa. What this means is that I can check books out to students not from my university but I can't access their account, only their home institution can.
Today being Easter I get to work because it's almost finals and we can't get them out without the use of tear gas around this time. I had a call from a girl from another university in the program (damn catholic university and their taking the day off, I'm not jealous at all :P) wanting to renew some books she had borrowed from us. I don't know how many times I had to tell her that I could not access her account to renew her books but at some point I was tempted to slam the phone into the counter. Eventually she understood (or gave up for the time being, who really knows?) she'd have to call back on Monday when her university library will be open.
In other news
We are out of white board markers, you just saw me go look for them in the cabinet. There is no cupboard in the back for more. Believe me I'd like some more too so you'd stop asking about the magic cupboard and/or draw pretty pictures with.
My new favorite item in the lost and found is a traffic violation someone had left and is going to need to get back so they can pay it. It does not beat my all time favorite lost can opener but I'm sure sooner or later we'll get something weirder.
I found it while looking for something else in the lost and found and after looking for it, accidently forgot the caller was still on hold for a minute or two. Oops.
