  • All The Small Things

Today was my Friday. Thank the Gods of Retail.

Sometimes it's just the small things that make a day sucky.

    Part one: He said/She said.
The gossip at this store is terrible. I guess everyone gets that stuff from time to time, but it's gotten to the point where all I do is shake my head and laugh.

    Part 2: Weird coloring guy.
Had a guy bring up one of our coloring pages and explain at length why it was wrong. It had some fantasy theme on it, and some puzzles relating to that theme. Why do you care? Just let your kid color it. I want that 5 minutes of my life back.

    Part 3: Reciept bitch.
There was a small mixup in the kitchen with deliveries/take-out. No biggie. A missing ticket. I was ringing out a pickup, and one of my crew asks to see the lady's reciept to make sure it was the right one. She got all kinds of pissy. Refused to let the driver see it, and snaps "Well, it has my name on it." And walks away.
    Driver is like:

    On my own end:

1: I accidently splashed my poor counter person's hand with hot grease. Didn't burn her, but hurt. I still feel bad about it.

2:Competely screwed up on an order. Not even in the ballpark of what the ticket called for. Had to get called a rookie several times.

3: guy was standing away from the counter, I, for some reason, figured he had been rang up for his pickup, as he wasn't standing at counter, like he needed service. I hand him his order. He tells me to have a nice evening, leaves. Later, I'm looking through the pickup screen. He never paid.

But, sometimes, it's the small things that get me through a week.

I was told by the counter person (same one I greased) that I was the reason she stayed working here, and she thinks that I am the coolest manager she'll ever have. Made my day.
Things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do. I would gladly hit the road, get up and go if I knew, that someday it would bring me back to you.

I've had those days, too. Weeks even.
And then a customer will come up and tell you something nice, and it makes things okay for a short bit.
I once dropped a bowl as I was ringing up a customer and glass went everywhere, including down to the floor where a piece cut her foot.
I was mortified and could feel the color drain from my face. I just stood there waiting for the explosion.
Instead, she just asked for a tissue and assured me it was okay. Just an accident!
Considering our clientelle, I could have easily cut the foot of some psychotic, lawsuit-happy freak from Hell.
My luck was in that day. I apologized like a MUTHA and was extra careful from then on.

Now, if I see a cashier or store employee having trouble with another customer and I'm next in line, I'm extra nice to them when it's my turn.
Retail may not be the worst job on earth, but get an SC with a chip on their shoulder and it can seem like it.

Seriously, kids dont care. Just hand them a crayon and they'll be happy.
