  • I no longer hate holidays. I despise them!!! (long)

Ugh, Easter. So aparently we didn't get extra hours this Easter. What I mean is we were scheduled the same amount of people as any other weekend...on a holiday....>_< And of course all week we had 2 or 3 call ins everyday, at least. Plus that horrible storm yesterday that left me stranded at work because all the roads were flooded! It has not been fun. Though I have gotten a lot of hours. And a .75 raise!!!! W00t! Plus I'm scheduled 40 hours this week, so there is an upside to all the bad.

    10:00pm, the day before Easter

SC: Your Easter stuff isn't marked down yet?
Me:.....No we usually don't markdown holiday merchandise till after the holiday. (just like everyone else. This isn't new lady)
SC: Oh I thought since there's only 2 hours left til Easter y'all would have the marked down.
Me: No they want to get as much money as they can, and we still have all day tomorrow to sell it.
    SC: You're open tomorrow?!?!
    Me: er...yes...
    SC: But H-E-B is closed.
    Me: I know, but this isn't H-E-B.
SC: I know, but still! It's not like they're is anyone else open.

Yeah we'd be the only ones open. Meaning all the last minuters have to either come here or go to Wal Mart (I think they're open...I doubt they were closed). And there's a lot of people who don't like Wal-Mart so a lot of people will be coming here. Meaning we'll do really well in sales. It's all about the bottom line in this company. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Kroger was open on Christmas for this very reason, the only problem is, no one would show up and we'd severly short staffed (More than we usually are on holidays).

    Pay attention people!

SC: Excuse me! This candy rung up wrong. It's Easter stuff so it should be 50% off!
Me: No ma'am, Easter candy is only 25% off.
SC: It says 50% over there!!!!!!
Me: That's for the non-candy Easter stuff. There's a sign over the-
    SC: I'll show you!!!!!!
    Me: *sigh*

So we walk over to the promo aisle and she points to the sign that says "Easter General Merchandise 50% off". Here let me show y'all the layout of our promo aisle so you can better visualize the fail.

    SC: See 50% off!!!
Me: Yes ma'am that's for "general merchandise". That sign on the other side of the aisle where the candy is says "Easter candy 25% off!
    SC: Well that's false advertising!
Me: Do you still want the candy!
    SC: What do you think!?

That I hate you right now and want you to leave, but I'm not allowed to tell you that.

    Baskets + wind = bad

So yesterday that storm that swept across the US reached our area and was insane!!! Epic downpour and flooding madness!!! And I was at work. Now not even 2 minutes after I clocked in I was at the booth about to tell the accountant something important and this lady walks by.

    SC: Excuse me!
    Me: Yes ma'am!
SC: There's baskets everywhere out there (there was about 10 when I walked in that morning. There's no one to get them overnight, the cashier can't leave the front) and those employees over there (pints to a huddle by the time clock of people clocking in/out) are just standing around! I brought in 6 baskets! It's really windy and they could hit a car!!!

And she walks off while watching me continue with my important work related conversation as her rant was meaningless.

    1) The sacker just clocked in 2 seconds ago so he hasn't gotten a chance to go out there and get the baskets yet
    2) Those employees doing nothing are the SCO attendant who is working SCO, therefore can't go get baskets. And that area is the time clock. All those people belong to various departments and are either clocking in or out.
    3) The wind isn't strong enough yet to push baskets around. In fact we didn't even have a wind-pushing-baskets-everywhere problem for another 5 hours after this. So there is no threat, calm down. The baskets won't get you.

So you know what, f*** you!

    Rain = wet floors

It's raining really really hard outside. I mean really really really hard. And has been for the past 3 hours. So the front foyer (where the front doors are) have really wet floors. Makes sense right? So this lady walks in and nearly slips. She then screams at me because we need to do a better job keeping the floors dry or she's gonna sue!!! Yeah sure, let me get my blow dryer, Oh look more people walking in tacking in water. I wonder why I can't keep it dry for more than 3 minutes!?

    I officially hate the rain!!!!!

So yesterday I clock out at 3pm and it's still raining cats and dogs. And I'm parked about 100 feet away from the front door. So no matter how fast I run to my car, I'm gonna get soaked. So I decide to wait it out, only it doesn't let up at all, and 30 minutes later I get tired of it. I run to my car and get soaked!!! Yay....I start driving home only to find out the main road out of town to the highway that takes me home has a dip that's completely flooded and impassible. Cops are diverting traffic to the backroads.

Only the backroads have high water too. almost to my door! Yay! So I finally get to the highway and turn left, the direction home, only to find out the intersection for <highway> and <main road I mentioned earlier> is flooded and impassible too. Joy.... So I turn around unwilling to risk it and head to Casa Ole (local tex-mex chain). However their parking lot is flooded as well, though I don't realize how bad it is till their's no turning back. So I stay and eat hoping the rain will let up and I can try again.

So I eat, pay, and look out side. The rain has stopped! (for now). But there's no way I'm risking my car in water that high. So I wait for it to drain. After much much waiting I decide I can make it through, and I can! Yay! Only that intersection is still impassible. It's even blocked off by police now. So I decide to continue north (work was South of here) and cut across on a non-flooded road to <main road> and take it south to road just before I get to the impassible intersection. Only main road is flooded in several areas, but not impassible. So I slowly make my way finally making it to my road of choice. And take it to back roads that will take me back to the <highway> I've been trying to get to.

    Time I clocked out: 3:00pm
    Time I got home: 5:20pm
Time it normally takes to get home: 15 minutes or less
Time it takes to get home including Casa Ole break: 45 minutes

So yeah I had a fun day yesterday....

It's all in how you say it, I guess. See, with just a change in tone, she could have been a great customer who just didn't know how the store operated regarding bringing in stray baskets. "Hey, guys. It sure is windy out there! I brought in six of your baskets for ya' so they wouldn't blow around the parking lot and smash somebody's car, but there's still a bunch loose." But, no, she can't say it like that! That would mean treating you lazy retail employees like equals!

I don't think she brought those baskets in out of consideration for other customers or even the store's staff. She brought them in to inflate her senses self-worth and entitlement, to prove how much better a person she is than everybody else.

Mythbusters just tested this on a recent show. They tested how wet you get if you run compared to walk in rain. Even though the difference was not that much...the conclusion was you'll get more wet running through the rain than if you walked.

Oh definitely, if she was even telling the truth. She probably pushed one in, and imagined the rest.

Well thanks for ruining it for me!! I liked living in a world were running in the rain might keep you dryer. But no you have to yank me out of that world and pull me into reality.

Last time it really snowed around here it took me 7 hours to get home (left at 5, didn't get home till midnight), normally takes 45min - 1hr. I found out the hard way (by trying them and then having to backtrack) the that ALL my alternate routes were closed, so that left only the main route, which everyone was on.

Exactly! Though explaining that to an SC appears to be a not so easy task.
