As the title states, this is the first time I had to deal with an actual theft at the rec center. Normally, patrons have claimed their stuff was stolen only for it to show up in another locker two feet over. This wasn't the case today.
Two friends had put their stuff in locker; after their workout they came up front to get me as they lost locker/forgot combo. When I open their locker for them: one guy had his wallet missing, but not his cellphone and the other had his house keys missing but not his ID. After checking all the other lockers in that row (they were all empty) I called the university police and filled out a theft report. I feel bad for those two, I hope they get their stuff back.
Even though stealing is wrong, why didn't the theif just take everything or better yet, why did he steal the keys?
Bonus management stupidity:
Not warranting its own thread.
Yesterday I went in to help move some of the cabled weight machinces into a..."better" position. Mainly because the director had been recieving some complaints from people on treadmills and ellipticals that they can see the nether regions of patrons on the stretching mats. Nether regions in a NSFW, illicit website, "Gah, my eyes" concept. So now the mats are out of view of the treadmills and ellipticals; they're now right in front of the window of the cardio room that faces the main entrance.
