So I'm standing behind the counter and this pissy-looking guy walks in. Here goes:

    Me: Good morning!
OM: **stops short at the counter next to the copy machines, over by the door, at least 20 feet from where I am standing** Where do you want me?
    Me: I'm sorry?
OM: I need to MAIL THIS. Do I stand OVER HERE or OVER THERE or where??
    Me: .........uh, over here.
OM: Its just not very clear where I'm supposed to be is all **huff**

I've never had this problem before. Most people can see that the place for me to help them is over by ME, behind the counter, behind the register, in the center of the store. Pretty much the only things missing are the double yellow lines with neon foot prints leading you to my location and the giant blinking red arrow pointing down at me from the ceiling. Maybe I could paint in little foot roads like at Ikea.

I've concluded that it's never possible to be too obvious, at least for certain special individuals. At the custard stand I work at, every now and then someone tries to use the wrong window. The thought process apparently goes something like this:

"Well, on the left there's an open window with a guy standing by a cash register greeting me. On the right there's a closed window, barred shut and marked 'Use next window.' Hmm, I guess I'll try the one on the right..."

I was just at a Dairy Queen the other day picking up some lunch on the way home from a trip down to hubby's dad's, and there was a smallish line at the register. We waited for 3 groups of people to order. The entire time a woman was standing at the other (closed) register. By the time we got to the front of the line, the woman yells, "Is this register open?" When told no, she walks out of the store. Seriously, you think she'd have figured it out after about 10 minutes of waiting and no one helping her...
