  • Cable Call center reps. DTV conversion complainers

Who is willing to bet that we will get a lot of calls from people complaining about why their TV is not working. We ask them if they have antenna, they say yes and we explain DTV and the first words out of there mouths would be "i was not aware of it! nobody told me! why didn't [insert cable company] tell their customers! "

    Who is willing to bet?

I'm willing to bet that and that they'll blame DTV,Dish or whoever their satellite TV providers are for that issue. When they should've PAID ATTENTION TO THE NEWS about the conversion to digital tv and how to get digital converter boxes for their prehistorically old TVs.

Wait, the transition is an issue if you have satellite? I thought you only needed the box if you just get the free channels. That's what all the media I've seen implies.

I remember hearing about a satellite provider that was switching equipment around feb.

I figured it would be troublesome because the advertising campaign for the digital switch claimed, if you had sat/cable youd be fine, but then people with this sat company would need new eq anyway, and would just cry or something.

True. And I've been trying to explain that to people (customers, co-workers, friends, family, strangers on the bus, etc.) whenever it comes up in conversation. Some still don't get it.

Still, I would be willing to bet that people who use antennae with ancient televisions and who have not picked up a converter box will still find a reason to call up any and all cable or satellite providers they can think of to complain. "I don't have TV service from your company, but my TV stopped working today, and it must be your fault!" Those are the posts I'm looking forward to reading.

Question, is antenna something you pay for? In other words, are people getting free cable?

I wouldn't be surprised either, my company gets so much crap about not being told important things going with their cable service even though we send bills, letters, we even put it on our channels but we still get those customers who don't care until they turn on their TV and see they are missing channels.

Not free cable just "local" channels. Works the same as radio basically.

I'm waiting for it too, local channels are going to get the worst of it though. If you have cable or satellite you don't have to do anything so they shouldn't get angry existing customers. Just angry new customers, that are angry that they have to sign up for this because they don't want to have to pay for the converter box.

When the original change date was coming around,Feb, 19 I think, people were complaining that they didn't know about it. Everyone has known about this since around November of last year at the LATEST, I think anyways.

                    Can't fix stupidity, though. <.<

most of them were actually bitching bout not having coupons for the new converter boxes or realized the coupons expired when they waited till last minute

Probably longer. They've pushed the "analog blackout" date back 6-8 times already. Just bite the bullet and deal with the complaints now. I've no doubt there will be complaints no matter how long you give people to convert.

There were actually a lot of problems because there weren't boxes to be had with the coupons, so the coupons expired, and then there weren't enough coupons to send to replace the old ones.

I don't have a problem with the switch to digital, but some of the related issues were not handled well.

I can't wait to read the suckitude from all directions when the switch is finally made. I'm willing to bet that all of you retail clerks (especially at markets) are going to hear all about it.

Actually we already have. As a former employee of a certain now out of business chain I got to hear just about every "conspiracy" imaginable about the transistion to DTV. From all the following:

                            -Alien conspiracy
-Government forcing people to buy new TVs (while buying the boxes with their government funded coupons)
-Government forcing people to pay for TV (while, of course... well repeat above)
-Sat/cable industry trying to force people to their servies
-Jack Bauer forcing people...... I think you can picture the rest.

                            You kinda get the idea.
