  • Memorial Day Flowers

This is my first attempt at posting a SC story and I think these people count as customers since some of the donate to cemetery maintenance funds part of which goes to pay us.
My family runs a lawn care and landscaping business and we maintain ten cemeteries most of them fairly large as well as about 55 other yards.
We're really busy in the week leading up to memorial day and any other holiday that sends alot of family to cemeteries and that probably makes this even more annoying than normal. I think it might be easier to make this a multiple choice because I have trouble explaining things

If you put flowers out in the cemetery do you
(A)take the old ones away with you
(B)if available put them in a trash can
(C)throw the old ones behind the stone
    (D)pile them by the fence
(E)pile them beside a shed in the edge of the cemetery

If you answered C,D,or E shame on you because someone has to pick them up and we are actually not paid to haul away your trash but we do because we can't stand to leave one of our cemeteries messy. The worst part is that some of the cemeteries have clearly marked places to get rid of old flowers and it's not that far away from where people randomly dump them.
We have talked to the people that pay us but most of them have done all they can do about these people so all we can really do is complain amongst ourselves and pick the mess up.

Hope this post came out right and doesn't make me sound too bitchy I like my job and I like to keep the places we maintain clean and welcoming this is just very annoying.

I don't know why it would be bitchy of you to complain about people not doing the decent thing and throwing their old flowers in the trash.

    I'd probably be upset too.

Not bitchy at all. Besides, this is a good place to go when you DO need to be bitchy and rant. ^_^

Sorry about the flowers, people just suck... We take care of our flowers when we go to the cemetery... Only cause we know that the people we visit (if they were still with us) would kick our A** for making a mess of their place.

at the veteran's cemetery here they have a large sign stating what dates you have to clear off any flowers etc, so they can maintain the grounds. though, on a whole the grounds are rather well kept (both by the staff and the visitors alike)

I can't understand people who care enough to bring flowers, yet have no problem throwing trash all over the place.

So many comments, so little appropriate. As for the OP... I'd complain too. Some people are lazy IDIOTS
