So, Sunday was a very busy day for us, it being Memorial Day weekend. We had all registers open and lines on every one. One of my cashiers brought up a bag that someone had left behind and I put it under the counter, thinking nothing of it. People forget bags, it happens.
5 Minutes before my shift ends the phone rings and I answer it, letting the other customer service girl take a return. The conversation was as follows:
Me: Opening spiel
SC: I was there about an hour ago and I don't have my bag. Nothing else, not what was in it, nothing.
Me: ...Okay, I have a bag that was left behind here, what are you missing?
SC: Speakers for an mp3 player.
Me: Alright, I have them right here for you.
SC: Great, so now I have to drive all the way back there to pick them up? Well, we have a delivery service for an additional $35.
Me: I'm very sorry ma'am, but there's nothing else we can do for you other than hold them at the counter.
SC: Well, I don't think that's fair. I mean, your job isn't that difficult, and it's not like we're bagging our own things, you bag them behind the counter. She didn't give them to me. Is she stupid? Actually, we bag them next to the counter, and often the customers do bag their own things. We're not even going to get into the 'job isn't difficult comment.
Me: Again, I am very sorry that your bag was left behind bu-
SC: When I come to pick it up, I'm going to talk to a manager. And I want that cashier talked to.
Me: I can transfer you to a manager right now. If you can tell me which cashier, I can talk to them.
SC: Ugh. This is ridiculous.
Me: ...Was it a girl with long black hair, short blond hair, or a boy?
SC: I don't remember...Sarah. That's what the receipt says.
Me: Alright, I'll speak with her and transfer you.
So I transferred the call and when to go talk to the girl who's worked there for about a year and never had any complaints made about her before.
Me: The woman who left the speakers behind called about it. She's mad that you didn't give the bag to her.
Sarah: ....It was the only thing she bought. And I put it on the side right in front of her.
Me: Well, she's talking to the manager now, but I doubt there's going to be a problem.
-5 mins later-
MOD: What a bitch on the phone, why did you give her to me?
I'm so sorry we're not physically handing you the bag and walking you into the parking lot with it. I understand leaving something behind when you have a few bags, but the only thing? And then you're going to call my job easy and my cashier stupid? I was one insult away from giving the call to the cashier's brother that works there instead of the manager. "Here Sean, this woman is calling your sister stupid and your job easy. Have fun."
