IShe bought 4 fountain drinks, put them in a drink tray and THEN wanted me to put the tray in the bag so she could carry it by the handles. ok...?
Actually that makes sense to me at least. Those trays while making it easier to carry drinks, are still not the easiest thing to carry, especially if you have your arms filled with more. The tray will keep the drinks in formation and keep them from tipping as much, and a plastic/handled bag will let you carry them like the rest of the bags if you have any.

      What Jetfire said.

If you've got other stuff to carry or you're going to be needing a hand for something else, bagging a drink tray is really useful, especially if you have the kind of drink tray that grips the cups at the bottom. But even with a drink tray that has what is supposed to be a carrying handle, a bag makes things a whole lot easier.

Recently bought a gift card from Hot Topic for a relative's birthday, and the guy started to put it in a bag, I went, "Uh, I think I can carry the card, thanks though."

He went, "You wouldn't believe how many people get angry when I ask."

        Oh, yes, yes I would...

Just a point of order. I think you were out of line with that last customer. As an employee, it really wasn't your place to lecture a customer on your own viewpoints.

Ditto. U can have your opinion, but you cant' pass them off on others.

AAAAAGH! I hate people with their dumb plastic bags! I only ever ask a customer if they need a bag when it's bloody obvious they shouldn't. I get women coming in with giant luggage sized purses who are buying just a pen, ONE PEN! and still want a precious bag.
wouldn't lube work better in a f***ing machine?

Personally I find plenty of uses for plastic bags. I use them for cleaning up cat presents and bathroom trash cans trash bag for the car, etc. Often times I see people people buying really small trash bags who aslo demand to not use a plastic bag.

At least in my store many of our customers are VERY paranoid about "stealing." Some go as far as asking for a bag to put around their coffee cup after they pay for it in the bakery than do their shopping. Um, that's why you get a receipt when you pay, not a bag. Then of course they will get asked by the cashier at checkout "did you pay for the coffee yet?"

Reusing the bags from the grocery store on household chores, etc., prevents me from BUYING a big box of plastic bags.
I think they've found notable increases in sales of "garbage bags" in those countries that have banned plastic bags. I don't live in one myself and ship off all my refuse to the bin in bags that declare the names of popular stores.

/I try to use the ones without a recycling logo though.

I LOVE the plastic bags for scooping cat litter boxes and trash.
I do the same. My bedroom and bathroom trash cans are the perfect size for a plastic grocery bag. My parents' kitchen trash is actually a little plastic frame that is meant to hold a grocery bag. I try to avoid getting bags as much as I can and I usually use canvas bags at the grocery store, but when I do start to accumulate too many bags I take them to the grocery store and put them in the recycling bin.

when I go to the bookstore and I'm not walking anywhere afterwards, I usually don't get a bag and when they ask I have the reply: "save a dinosaur".
I always said "Save a plastic tree."

When I was on register and someone was just buying a magazine or a gift card, or a small paperback, I would always ask if they needed a bag. Most magazine people would say no. Unless I'm buying a lot of stuff, I never get a bag at the bookstore anymore.

Hmmmm but when the world is over-run with plastic bags etc I think it will everyone's problem then!

I hate when passengers buy something very small from the duty free trolley and want a bag!

Ummm..if someone wants a bag, why not just give it to them instead of arguing with them? You may not agree with them; but, they have a right to have a plastic bag if they want, they aren't asking for anything special or trying to scam the store or anything.

Even so, it's not your place to lecture customers on your personal viewpoints. Think it, but don't say it.

And the same thing goes for customers. If I were a cashier and somebody pulled out their reusable bag to put their stuff in, I wouldn't think twice about it. If that person pulled out their reusable bag while making a preachy statement about "I use this bag because I care about the Earth and we all need to do our part and I think it sucks you even offer plastic bags," I will probably start thinking "Thanks for the lecture I didn't need or want, assbag. I am now tempted to shove your groceries in plastic just to spite you."

I think a lot in my head and don't say it. Passengers lecture me on personal viewpoints so I turn around and tell them what I think if they start on me.
