  • Free Rooms Stereotype

I book complimentary rooms for a casino's players club. Everything pretty much is tied to how much the guest gambles on average (free rooms, discounted rates, special gifts).

I have noticed the lower the player's average the more likely they are to expect the world. Our flagship property is currently showings rates in the $300's during the week and $500's weekends. At least 5 times a day I'm getting players with a average of $30 a day or less who insist they only will come out to visit us if they can stay at the flagship for free (and often in the newest tower and often a suite). Often what shows up in the system for them when I check availability is a discounted room at flagship for around $150. They always wants free. So I check the almost as nice (I think it's nicer more fun and less stuffy personally) sister of flagship and I can almost always get these people in free. Without fail they'll give me the "thanks but no thanks" and hang up booking nothing. WTF?

I had the queen of this the other day. She called telling me she wanted to book an anniversary package (we have packages on our website that are payed rooms with special extras included at a fairly high price). I quote her the rate and she asks if her players card could get her a better deal. I explain that package prices are fixed and non-negotiable but I'd be glad to see what I could do at the same hotel with her players card but not the package. I find 2 nights free and 2 two weekend nights deeply discounted (a 4 night stay for less than $40 a night in effect). She balks and says they always stay free at any casino they choose and hangs up. Her average? less than $14 a day. The package she wanted me to comp her (which we don't do for anyone) was over $700 a night (it has tons of extra stuff on top of the room) lol.

Sorry ... uh what? People gamble less than $50 a day and expect the casino to be doing them favours? Really?

I'm SO trying that. Okay, well, not really, because I'm too classy for that. But man, you can get them free rooms? I'd take free in the sister-flagship! Sweet! 'Specially if all I have to do is gamble about 1/5th of the standard room rate.

Honestly, if they're not regularly spending twice the room rate, at the bare minimum, why would they think they're that special? Yeah, yeah, I know. People are that dumb.

      Hey Angry

How would an international tourist coming to a casino get things like that comped? Never been to one that offers free things, it's not in their vocabulary here in Oz (unless you spend hundred of thousands).

LOL that is pretty bad. I love it when I pull up their play and they say that they've spent like over thirty thousand dollars and I see like a thousand for the whole year...

Man, I've seen people pull out twenty-four thousand dollars in three hours off their credit cards. And trust me I am jealous because I will never have that much money on me EVER lol

Or I get idiots who bitch about getting nothing free, no cash/comps and when I ask if they use their players card, I hear: I don't like using those, they make me loose!

I work in the cage and we look at play a lot.

            Just Ace,
If your interested in getting comps in the future I suggest that every time you visit a casino for the first time make sure to sign up for a players club card (it's free).

It may not get you very much on your 1rst trip (maybe a souvenir of some sort or a food discount) unless you play tons on the first trip.

But being a non-local you will more likely than not be sent offers for your next trip even if you don't play (a few months back I was seeing out of town people with no play who had received free rooms, now that the busy season is here those offers have moved to people with little play).

If you play you will get better offers. I'd suggest focusing your play on one casino or a chain of casinos and if possible focusing your play on one day (casinos do either a daily average or a trip average or a combo of both, all your play on one day would make your daily look bigger). Always either have your players card in the machine or give it to the crew at a table before you play.

As a local I don't get offered free rooms, they offer us stuff for around the house lol (I have offers for a full set of dinnerware and a iced tea serving set at the moment lol). For the tourist (we want to "trap you in the desert for a few days so you'll spend money" so that's why we give you free rooms)

There's other perks to the players clubs, too. Nekojin & I go to a casino resort every year for Thanksgiving (family plus event thing), and this last year, they had some pretty sweet deals for people actually wanting to play the tables. Like spend $20 and get an extra $30 in chips sort of thing. They were for use at specific tables, but free money is free money.

Wow, reminds me, not in a bad way, of my Grandparents. They were both bigtime players of Slot Machines. Regularly would plunk down a couple thousand a trip, minimum.

Toward the end of thier time making trips out to vegas, they were on first name basis with the concierge at the Stardust, and never paid a dime for food, and maybe for one night outta a week, on the room. Amazing, as a young teen getting to visit the 'new' Vegas without paying for pretty much anything. XD

I don't gamble (personal choice, plus the fact that casinos are not fond of magicians gambling, period), but the only time I ever stayed in a casino hotel, I did expect a free room, and got one. Why? Well, because I was hired to perform at a private party in Las Vegas, and part of my fee was "plus expenses," which includes the hotel room. I said I expected and got a free room...I did not say "from the hotel." The client paid for it, naturally. (Bonus luck for me: the hotel he thought he had a room booked for me didn't have any reservation, and all they had available were suites....so the client booked me into a suite. SWEET!)

Anyone who spends a piddly amount at a casino and expects free shit is the same as those people who claim to "spend thousands here" or are "great customers" and expect free shit from retail. In other words, they are idiots.

Hell, back when I did gamble, I was thrilled with the "free drinks when you're gambling" deal, which I found to be a wonderful idea.

Wow, she must think that the nickle slots she plays on justifies being comped.

I went to visit relatives in Los Angeles (actually, Riverside) and me, mom and an aunt went to Vegas. I had booked a room for 3 people but my aunt said when we go to the desk, just say it's a room for 2 people. The room has 2 big beds, so I doubled up with my mom. So three stayed in a room for 2, and we paid less. It's not right, but oh well. At least we didn't ask to be comped.

First, take a Vacation to Angry_Hippie's Casino, join the Card Club, gamble $50.

THEN, book a vacation with VRS's company, call, demand a manager, and complain that since you lost so much money gambling, you deserve a discount, and since you obviously spend so much on vacation you're a good customer to come back, and since you can't clearly see whether the grout is cracked in the pictures of the bathroom, you deserve a discount anyway.

Then after THAT vacation, come back to Angry_Hippie's casino, and demand a free room because of all the woe and suffering from your vacation with VRS' company.

In all seriousness, I'm part of a members club of a casino not far from here. Since joining I have been sent six vouchers for free rooms as well as a free buffet voucher and some other goodies. The funny thing is I'm nowhere near a big time gambler, although I do a play a little every time I go.

Late last year, I went to stay on a comp voucher. I had requested a room with a King bed. The very awesome counter person decided to book me into the only available King he had....an $800 a night suite! That's right, my wife and I got to stay in a room usually reserved for celebrities absolutely FREE. That Casino has my business for a long time because of that.

My mom and I are leaving for Vegas tomorrow morning, and my sister is coming down to meet us, but our room similarly only has 2 people booked for it.

When we do go to Vegas, mom tends to play more than I do, and half the time she forgets/loses her Players card (She plays the slots). I need to remember to get a leash for it before we go down. Mind you, we don't usually look for perks afterwards either, but we did get my internet fees knocked off the room when we stayed at the Rio the first time.

It's short notice, but any suggestions for 'light' gamblers going to Vegas? I do make sure mom has her players club card. Should I have my sister sign up for her own, or just get a copy of mom's so they share an account? What kind of perks could we ask about and whom do we ask? (Not looking for free rooms or anything; at the Rio we just asked when we were checking out, partly because the TV in the room was bad too)

In any case, we'll try not to be sucky when we're down there. (Not that we're usually sucky to begin with. We just go down to have fun, see the sites and shows, to lose money and if we get good stuff we didn't ask for, all the better.)
