  • Sorry, we won, go away.

So this woman isn't really a customer, but she is sucky. I live in the middle of a bunch of farms. It's a very tight knit community. We have a little general store and a nice sports field, a horse tack and feed store. There are no big grocery stores around, all of our food is bought from the farms. There was a huge snow storm a few years ago and the county wouldn't plow our streets so 48 families made their way to the vineyard and we had a great community sleepover (lots of alcohol). You can pick veggies from anyone's yard, grab your own eggs. There's a family style restaurant and it's a huge hall and every kid in the area has worked there. It's everyone's first job. It's great. So one farm that supplies a majority of the state's milk wanted to open a creamery. We had parties all summer to raise money, all the food was free from neighbor farms. I must have made 400 lbs. of coleslaw and even more potato salad. It would bring more work into the area. Everything is organic. Milk would be so much cheaper because it could be processed right on the farm. All the forms were signed, the building was built, the equipment was bought. I was actually enlisted to run the bakery. I'm a great cook, a better baker. I've worked in kitchens. Not only would there be fresh milk, but ice cream, cheeses, the farms could sell their fruits and veggies there, eggs, bread, cookies, home made pasta, herbs, meat and more. We were ready.

Okay, enter crabby old lady (COL). She moved out 6 years ago. There were so many problems from her before she left. 2 weeks before we were ready to open, COL pops out of the bowels of hell (or in her case, Florida.) We thought she had permanently migrated south, but nope. She said we were breaking laws because it had to be a unanimous vote from the board and she was voting no. It was literally a law suit between her and the community. The news came up with all these horrible stories about the farm and stated that the community opposed it! The real problem, she could see the roof from her house. Apparently she's a millionaire and decided to just keep the suit going until the owners were out of money. Well, as of friday it's official. We won!

So now we're all decorating. Later today we're going to paint and the vineyard is bringing booze! This nice woman who has an art gallery in the city is making up signs and artwork for the owners. She made amazing paintings on old saws and wheelbarrows and old doors. Everything is on recycled material to go with the organic, green, kinda theme.

COL is there everyday protesting and cussing at us. The owners are getting a restraining order to ban her from their land. So, if anyone is passing by the countryside of Maryland, stop by!

I think my brain just exploded from that story. How did she get the news on her side anyway?

Your community sounds amazing and am really glad to hear that you've won over one person who has a problem with it. Hope the creamery goes well.

Oh, hey, if COL can see the roof of the creamery from where she lives, you have to put some really large decorations on that roof.

Tasteful, sure, but large, so that every time she looks that direction, she'll be reminded of the bitter taste of her crabby defeat.

              In Baltimore County.

This is an article about the dismissal of the case. She appealed, but like I said, nanny nanny boo boo she lost.

This is the article that misrepresents the issue. The author states that the neighbors are against the creamery. No, a neighbor is against it. This was written two days after our first fundraiser. They forgot to mention that 300 of those neighbors showed up for the event, and at $25 a ticket. Almost 600 people showed up to the last one. They offered a reduced ticket for people who wanted to donate, but couldn't make it for the party. 3,000 of those tickets were sold. Notice how the author could only find one person to interview.

Oh, and the thing everyone was arguing about was that there was no commercial building in the area. That's why there was a vote before actually building. Also, this field across the street from my house that COL owns, they're planning to build 100 of those mcmansions on it. They're so ugly, though it looks like the suit drained her funds for that project. That is something the community is angry about. There're plenty of homes for sale for people looking to move in. I don't want to sound mean, but I don't want a bunch of yuppies moving in.

Reminds me of a case where a guy was getting complaints about construction on his home from a neighbor, which apparently impeded his view slightly by about 18 inches over ordinance specs. So he put some new attic vents on his house, on the shape of an extended middle finger. "Oh, that? It's an abstract cactus."

Perhaps this might work in this situation as well.

it sounds like COL wants to own the community and have only HER issues pressed and HER interests supported.

I will laugh if she gets arrested for harassing you

If I still lived up in MD, I sure as heck would visit. Used to live a half hour to forty-five minutes away.

Why would someone protest it when they are the only one who has a problem with it? Maybe she just needed something to do....
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I had an obsessive-repulsive neighbor (they picked the leaves before they fell) who got a zoning commission dictat that we could not put our tipi up in our front yard "because it was a permanent structure" 2-3 times a year totalling 15-20 days.

So I painted the plywood parts of our brick house (gable ends & utility room) in wide pastel stripes: pink, light yellow, sea green & sky blue.

That...is...amazing. I can't give the middle finger because it just looks ridiculous when I do it. My hands look completely normal, especially when the fingers are curved inward, (though I still can't make a fist since I can't bend my top joint in. I will never be able to open my own soda bottle ) much like the position needed to play the flute, but I'm missing a bone in each hand which makes it hard for my fingers to move independently and some of the muscles are fused together and I have hyper extension of the fingertip, which means when my fingers are straight the tips point backwards at a 90 degree angle. (I am very proud of my fingers and it's fun to gross out my mom with them) Yeah, and I play the flute. Actually, I have rockin' technique and sucky tone. I started playing flute because my teacher told me I never could because I couldn't move my fingers. Now I can and quite well, but unfortunately I just can not hold the middle finger position. Too bad because I have terrible road rage...

I was going to say a "middle finger" decoration would be perfect for the roof but IT grunt beat me to it.

Ah, yes, the passive/aggressive neighbor spats.

My aunt dated a lawyer for a while, and the HOA at his condo wouldn't let him have his satellite dish on his balcony. It was only a 30" dish, too, but they wouln't have it. So he checked the code, and then installed a dozen of the ugliest pink plastic flamingoes he could find. About a month or so later, they relented on the satellite dish.
