So this woman isn't really a customer, but she is sucky. I live in the middle of a bunch of farms. It's a very tight knit community. We have a little general store and a nice sports field, a horse tack and feed store. There are no big grocery stores around, all of our food is bought from the farms. There was a huge snow storm a few years ago and the county wouldn't plow our streets so 48 families made their way to the vineyard and we had a great community sleepover (lots of alcohol). You can pick veggies from anyone's yard, grab your own eggs. There's a family style restaurant and it's a huge hall and every kid in the area has worked there. It's everyone's first job. It's great. So one farm that supplies a majority of the state's milk wanted to open a creamery. We had parties all summer to raise money, all the food was free from neighbor farms. I must have made 400 lbs. of coleslaw and even more potato salad. It would bring more work into the area. Everything is organic. Milk would be so much cheaper because it could be processed right on the farm. All the forms were signed, the building was built, the equipment was bought. I was actually enlisted to run the bakery. I'm a great cook, a better baker. I've worked in kitchens. Not only would there be fresh milk, but ice cream, cheeses, the farms could sell their fruits and veggies there, eggs, bread, cookies, home made pasta, herbs, meat and more. We were ready.
Okay, enter crabby old lady (COL). She moved out 6 years ago. There were so many problems from her before she left. 2 weeks before we were ready to open, COL pops out of the bowels of hell (or in her case, Florida.) We thought she had permanently migrated south, but nope. She said we were breaking laws because it had to be a unanimous vote from the board and she was voting no. It was literally a law suit between her and the community. The news came up with all these horrible stories about the farm and stated that the community opposed it! The real problem, she could see the roof from her house. Apparently she's a millionaire and decided to just keep the suit going until the owners were out of money. Well, as of friday it's official. We won!
So now we're all decorating. Later today we're going to paint and the vineyard is bringing booze! This nice woman who has an art gallery in the city is making up signs and artwork for the owners. She made amazing paintings on old saws and wheelbarrows and old doors. Everything is on recycled material to go with the organic, green, kinda theme.
COL is there everyday protesting and cussing at us. The owners are getting a restraining order to ban her from their land. So, if anyone is passing by the countryside of Maryland, stop by!
