  • Impatient Customer

Yesterday, I was covering in a register and it was really busy. There were a couple other employees checking and there were no backup checkers at the time (except the produce guy who was already in a register).

One customer got impatient and mentioned having to wait in line for 15-20 minutes. He even went behind the service desk, which is not allowed, and put his basket and milk on the floor. My service desk coworker mentioned that she couldn't do anything about the wait which was true since it was busy and we had no backup. He ended up leaving without his groceries since he couldn't wait in line like the other customers that were in the lines.

I get this problem all the time. People have gotten so spoiled. The store is staffed so lightly that if we have one call out we're pretty much crippled for the night. Two people at registers all the way across the store from each other to watch the exits and one person to carry large purchases to the customers cars. The two up front can't leave the registers or move closer to each other and the person doing pick ups can't jump on a register. So when a line gets long and you tell the guests that there is another register open at the other end of the store they get P.O.ed.

Sometimes though they get upset if they have to wait, at all. period. I was so confused the other night when i was checking out a customer like normal and a woman walked up behind her at the counter, looked at us and huffed "isn't there any one else here to check me out??! Seriously? You can't wait one minute? It wasn't even an unordinary transaction. It wasn't a return or a credit card application, I didn't need any price checks. We were almost done. jeez.

urgh i hate that! i worked in a card shop and on xmas eve the 2 other people in the shop decided to piss off and have a break; leaving me on the shop floor alone. on xmas eve. i was completely rushed off my feet, nearly in tears coz customers kept talking over each other at me. and then one woman said "god are you the ONLY one here??". i threw her cards back at her, went outside and took some deep breaths. . .
