And as of a few years ago, it's no longer illegal to make one VHS copy of a DVD as long as you still own the original DVD.
For the benefit of the North American members, I'll just point out that here, it is still "illegal."

sorry, I thought Australian copyright law was catching up with American law regarding format shifting (i.e. it is legal to make one copy in a different format as long as you keep your legitimate original. This was primarily passed to make it legal to copy CDs you own onto your ipod.). Must be the other way around.

Actually, they're trying to restrict it further here, but the full details are pretty much guaranteed Fratching-worthy. I mostly meant it as a PSA.

Coo. So in some countries, format shifting is legal, in others it isn't.

            Including:

What do you mean the manufacturers warrenty won't cover the knob being pulled off or the door getting damaged!? Thats outragous!!!
-It was a washing machine, I had just explained that it was at the manufacturers discretion to do anything helpfull really....

You won't 'throw' a bag in???? Not ever this one? But im BUYING a laptop from you!!
-I didn't say won't, I said CAN'T, and that bag is €80, the laptop you're 'buying' is €450, so not in your wildest dreams!

We have to pay delivery! I can get it at <local competitor> and not have to pay delivery!
-We do our research, it's an inferior model, it's more expensive, and what do you do WHEN you 'accidentally' break it? You sure as hell won't get free pick-up from them! But by all means, screw yourself over for €15.....(I could go into a whole rant about that single issue)

            But there's a recession on!!!
-Oh I will strangle the next person to utter that phrase.....

            etc, etc

The problem is, He spent 5 and a half days making Australia and knocked the rest together at the last minute.
Are we sure of that? I mean, the platypus (only found in Australia and Tasmania) seems to have been made with "spare parts"

Having Christmas decorations in the store before halloween. It was SOOOO outrageous she never ever wanted to return.
Well, she must not shop at very many places, then. It seems like just about every place has Christmas decorations out by then.

That's probably because EH meant to say "He spent 5 and a half days making Queensland, and spent most of the rest of the 6th day making the rest of Australia... and did the rest of the world in the last minute"

(Btw Protege - Tasmania is, last I looked, still a part of Australia.. it's New Zealand you're thinking of that's not ...... any more )

When I was doing management in retail I had this HORRIBLY upset women. We're talking the yelling, the empty coorporate threats, and the "using the other cust's against you" tactics (like when they get really upset and try and get the other cust's standing in line to side with them). She wanted this coat for a sale price even though it was clearly on an unmarked rack and already at it's lowest price (our store had prices locked at thier lowest prices so they were excluded from ALL sales, she was getting a jacket that could have prolly been sold for close to $380 for about $249 or somethign like that).

She was one of my worst and yes, threatened to never shop at our store again. Several hundred times. At the end I told her I surely hope so, and to have a nice day
Sorry, my love cannot be bought. And if it could, you obviously don't have enough in your account to do so.

                      - for not being able to honor rainchecks that were given anyways, because we didn't have any left
Wait, I thought "we don't have any left" was supposed to be the reason you GOT a raincheck in the first place? o_O Come back when there's more in stock and NO WE WILL NOT HOLD IT FOR YOU!

Too bad that the policy says you can't return computers or computer components through the store. Now, computer components technically cover keyboards so I refused to take back the keyboard.
If it goes inside the comp or is something that MUST be attached in order to get it to work, it's a component, at least in my book.

Not much profit on those comps, or so I would think. I WON a laptop bag from Dell once, but that's about the only way I can think of to get free bags, short of some special sale where the base price was quietly marked up to begin with...

Oh, I meant "we don't have any left" as in "it's been clearanced out of the store and won't be getting any more". Which is why we didn't do rain checks on seasonal merchandise to begin with--some of that stuff would fly out of the store and we'd never get another batch before it was discontinued.

It's just a shame that all that time was spent making things venemous/poisonous/both of the above...

If it wasn't for the pressure of time presumably everything would be unreasonably lethal. (And stingy and bity and, in the worst cases, 8 legged).

Only two or three Australian spiders are poisonous.

The ones you really have to watch out for are the drop-bears and the lesser spotted bogans.

I saw a fake travel poster for Australia recently, and the small print at the bottom read "WARNING: Everything in Australia is made of pure fucking poison, and whatever isn't poisonous will kill you with it's huge teeth and claws."
