  • Black Friday debriefing thread!

This is for all your Black Friday stories.

Well...came in at 10:30 last night and had to help stage furniture outside the back overhead door for carryouts and unload all the six-hour merchandise from the trailers outside. I was taking a little break on the forklift waiting for one of my co-workers to move a pallet and somebody drove past and yelled at me "GET TO WORK YOU (derogatory term rhyming with 'sock plucker')!"

After we opened at 5 my job was to fill appliances as they were being bought. I saw two customers just about start fighting over a portable DVD player. We sold out our stock in less than an hour and I had wanted one of those DVD players. But because I was working during the rush I got a raincheck.

Also, we had suits visit the store before we opened. One of them asked me if I was "jacked up". I said "Jacked up as in excited on jacked up as in ESPN highlight reel jacked up?"

Overall things went pretty smoothly. I'll be stopping in later to pick up my check and then pick up a few things that I'm sure will still be around.

Sock plucker? Sounds like a relatively unassuming job... wander out into the cotton orchard, reach up a little bit, grab a fully grown gym sock (comes complete with pre-used smell) toss in a basket. Rinse, repeat, look at a guy sitting on the porch drinking lemonade.
    "I call murder on that!"

Jacked up? You mean as if you needed your shoes changed and you jacked up one foot at a time....

Okay, maybe not such a good joke, but I'm trying.

The cops came out to Wal-Mart today. Fighting broke out in the aisles. Why?

They were selling a 52inch projection HDTV for $474. Sold out in 30 minutes.

Cripes. Wish I'd have gotten a piece of that action.

                  I survived!

Glad you made it out alright. I worked a ten hour shift today. Opened the store five minutes early. According to the computer, by seven, I had 8 customers who bought grand total of $177 within five minutes.

Our store opened at 7 am. Not bad. My boss who says customers are grumpy for a reason had to deal with a grumpy customer herself,

My heart sanked a little for humanity. I was completing a transaction for a 40ish year old man. We are selling phone cards for buy one, get one half off. This is what was said, word for word,

ME: Sir, you can get a second phone card for half off being that you are buying this one.

SC: No I cannot get it for half off. The sign says buy one, get one 50 percent off.

                  ME:
At the end of the day, customers are NOT always right.

Dude: Do you have this hard drive in stock?
Me: No we are sold out of it.
                    Dude: But you just opened!!
Me: Actually we've been open since 6 AM. [was approximately 9:30 AM at the time]
                    Dude: *cat butt face*
Me: *on her merry way, happy about the minor pwnage*

BTW Irving, Amazon.com will most likely have a portable DVD player for $25 next Thursday, but you will have to be fast, the $100 X box 360 did not last long this Thrusday.

Lucky you. At the store I work at, our stuff is/was two days only, no rain checks allowed. That goes for employees, too.

a bit-- Please don't get me started on the standard employee/raincheck situation.

The boss came back to us on Monday and said "According to inventory there should be a dozen of those wrench sets in stock."

Me and the other employees looked at each other and I said "They are set back for some people."
