  • It wasn't your screw up but you damned sure better fix it!

A woman comes into my store and she has a case for Call of Duty: World at War, with a Call of Duty 4 game disc inside it...

SC: My boyfriend bought this while in <out of state town>, is there any way you can swap it out for the right game?
Me: Did he buy it at one of our stores?
SC: I don't know, he might have. You have stores in <town>?

I check and it turns out we have exactly ONE store in that town. I call and speak with the Manager who checks into it and finds exactly no evidence of an error made on their part. I might also mention this disc was VERY scratched up...and the SC had no receipt

Me: We do have one store there, I called them but they said there was no evidence of any error being made there regarding this game.
SC: Maybe it was bought at <competing store> or something. Can you still swap it out?
    Me: Unfortunately not.
SC: That's not fair...I have no way to get back there, it was bought over 100 miles away and this is NOT the game I want.
Me: I do sympathize with your situation ma'am, but there's really little I can do.
SC: Can I get anything for it?
    Me: <gives trade in value>
SC: That's IT??! That's ridiculous, I paid $40 for this thing.
Me: Well I can only give you what the computer tells me I can.
SC: Can't you just do me a favor? Please? You've got like 10 copies of that other game.
Me: I can't do an even swap ma'am
    SC: (whiny) Whyyyyyyy not?
Me: Well for one you don't have a receipt, two I can't even confirm it was one of our stores your bought it at and three, we don't do even swaps as a general rule anyway.
SC: But that's not fair. I can't afford to drive all the way back up there and get this fixed, I don't even know where it was bought.
And this is my problem how...?
Me: I don't know what to tell you, but all I can do is take it as a trade in towards the game you actually wanted to get.
SC: That's not fair to me though, I mean it's not my fault they put the wrong game in there.
    Me: It's not ours either.
SC: I shop with you guys all the time, can't you help me out this once? I really need this game.
Me: Once again no I can't, all I can offer is a trade in. If you don't want to do that, then there's nothing more that can be done.
SC: Fine, I'm never shopping here again. *stomps off in a huff*

    Out of touch much?

    A quickie but a goodie.

SC: Do you have Pac-Man for the PS3?
Me: No sir, they don't make that for PS3.
SC: That sucks, why don't they make games for these things that people want to play?!

(Just spend $40 and get a Gamecube and Namco museum...it's not complicated)

Your faith in humanity is much greater than mine

I won't use "SC" because this person wasn't sucky.

C: Has anyone been in there today looking for some money they lost?
    Me: ...no...
C: Oh well, has anyone turned in any money they found? My boyfriend left some money in your store yesterday.
Me: No, no one has turned it in.
C: Ok, my name is Jane Doe and my number is XXX-XXXX, if anyone turns in any money they found can you call me?
    Me: Sure thing.

I probably should have been straight up with her, but seriously? That money is GONE, long gone. You probably wouldn't have any luck finding it one hour later let alone one whole DAY. I can honestly say in all my years in customer service, I've never had anybody turn in money. Wallets I've had, but never money.

I actually answered this one before I realized what had popped out of my mouth, thankfully the customer thought it was hilarious.

Customer: That sucks, why don't they make games for these things that people want to play?!

    Me: Because they hate you.

    Customer: . . .

Me: . . .*brain suddenly realizes the sentence which was uttered*

    Customer: ROTFL are you serious!?
*jedi hand wave* This game works...just not in your system.

the 1st one... I smell BS.

I mean ok even if it IS true that this woman got the wrong game (doubtful but hey maybe it's true). that does suck. but yea if it wasn't bought at one of your companies stores then sorry tough luck. Sell it/trade it in and put the money towards getting WaW.

as for the pacman lol tell the man 2 get xbox360 since u can get pacman etc. for download on the arcade (not sure about PSN).

and for the lost money. yes agreed that money is LONG gone.

I mean im sorry im a decent honest person. If i found a wallet or keys or something i'd turn it in where I found it (or ok in a wallets case look for ID and call whoever it is and tell em 'hey man i found ur wallet')

but if i find money just laying on the ground. sorry that money is mine. (unless i SEE someone drop it then i'd give it back).
Common sense... So rare it's a goddamn superpower.

Sorry, Princess, your Mario is in another castle, but you don't need this game. While it is generally acknowledged that playing is good for you, you don't need a specific game.

Go play in the blender, tuna-head.

I've found money several times when working at the cinema and handed it in.

I think only once, out of about 5 times has it ever been claimed. So after a month I was richer.

Someone forgot to take their meds. Isn't there an agency you can call about that, she might hurt herself, or at least all of the CS agents she is calling. I bet you aren't the only one.

Hey Crazed, I found a few pennies yesterday. Do you want to call her and see if they're hers? I live in Vermont though so it's a long shot.

People leave pretty expensive stuff on planes.

When I was a detailer for US Airways I used to find entire shopping bags full of high end retail clothes. I even found a Mario DS game, a burnt copy of an episode of Heroes and magazines galore.

Alas I was never, nor have I ever been, lucky enough to find a wallet full of cash that I didn't suspect was placed there to see if I would pocket it.

One of our ushers found $300 around Thanksgiving, and noone ever came to claim it either!

Almost made me want to transfer to usher duty.

                        I've handed in 2 £20 notes I found.

SO tempted not to. Particularly as I doubt anyone ever claimed them back (because they wouldn't have known where they lost them, and wouldn't have expected to find them). But I thought it over and felt I should be honest.

Probably wouldn't hand in money if I found it in the street - but in a building where there is likely to be some lost and found system I felt I should.

I've also been given £20 I dropped on my own doorstep - handed back by a pizza delivery guy.

I must use that "Sorry princess" line sometime!

Although she didn't seem to know much about games, that well could have gone right over her head.

Yeah, now I'm in projection all the time, the opportunities for finding cash are limited.
