This kind of stuff only ever happens when I'm not at the wholesale club...
This happened this past Sunday, a few hours after I'd left for the day. I've gotten most of the details from three different coworkers involved. My coworker CR was the FDLP, which means he checks the receipts as people leave the store. He checks EVERYONE'S receipt, unless the service desk or a manager has radioed him that a customer is okay to leave. (And please, let's not turn this thread into a debate about the legalities of receipt-checking. Take that to Fratching.)
A fairly big line (about 8 carts long) had built up at the door, and CR was doing a more perfunctory check than usual in the interest of getting people out the door sooner. But one asshole decided that he didn't want to wait, goes around the line, and out the door, ignoring CR as he asks, then yells for the guy to stop.
Here's where CR maybe took his job a little TOO seriously, as he followed the guy outside and continued to demand his receipt, and when the asshole wouldn't stop, CR jumped onto the side of the guy's cart. Well, the asshole then started to rock the cart back and forth to shake him loose, and CR falls off and hits the back of his head on the ground.
By this time, another customer was outside witnessing all this, and coworker WS was outside investigating the commotion. Asshole puts his stuff into his car and is driving off, while WS is getting his license plate, and the Other Customer is on the phone calling the police.
Asshole sees OC on the phone, stops his car, gets out, and starts yelling and cussing at OC, who responds in kind, and the two are ready to have a throw down in the parking lot before WS separates them.
That's about where the details end. Here's what I do know. A police report was filed against Asshole. CR was sent home early, but is okay and went back to work the next day. Asshole has been banned from the store.
