I was grading papers this week, and discovered a student had turned in the wrong assignment. I wrote, "This is the wrong assignment. Turn in the correct assignment so I can give it a grade." I then gave it a 0, because 0's catch people's attention in a way just writing comments doesn't. I returned papers last night.
Email from student today: "Why did I get a 0? The paper met all the guidelines and was long enough rabble rabble."
I wrote back, "Did you actually read my comments?"
I know it's a bit much asking a student to read, but. . . .
