  • What is her definition of checked out?

I was part of a situation the other day where I'm not sure who is scamming who (my vote goes toward the guest scamming the company I work for).

This woman called because she had stayed with us recently and had a mysterious charge on her credit card. I pull up the reservation and see that for 4 out of 5 nights she was complimentary (we sent and she used a coupon giving her 4 free nights) with a rate of $xxx on the last night that perfectly matched the charge. I "double check" that I pulled up the reservation by confirming her arrival and departure dates. Guest gets snotty and tells me she only stayed four nights not five. I call the front desk and they see what I saw, someone called on the 4th night to add a 5th night and was quoted a rate of $xxx then the room was checked out of the afternoon after the 5th night causing to run the charge.

I explain this to the guest and she insists (with no proof of course) that she checked out the morning after the 4th night. Guest makes a huge stink saying that she only stayed 4 nights with us because a friend gave them use of a fancy time share for the 5th night (I'm guessing I was supposed to be impressed). I explain all of this to a front desk manager and they promise to research and contact the guest back. I saw the notes today, the housekeeping records show that the room was occupied on the afternoon after the 5th night they will be calling the guest tomorrow and telling her she is responsible for the charge because the room was used. Guest is someone who gambles her face off with us.

I'm so wondering what she means by "I checked out right after the 4th night", the only way I think the guests story could be true is if someone who works for us was scamming to get a room for one night. What do you think?

I'm thinking the refrain from Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer", personally.

    "Lie, lie, lie... [etc]"

No matter how low my opinion of humanity as a whole gets, there are always over-achievers who seek to surpass my expectations.

Perhaps this is similar to the video store version of "I know I returned that DVD after one night!"

Sounds like BS to me, though there is the slightest chance that it's true.

Can she provide a reciept from anywhere near that other place that shows she wasn't at your hotel on the evening of the fourth day or morning of the fifth (early enough to prove she couldn't have been at the hotel at check out time). Timeshares aren't known for being well-stocked for breakfast, so the credit card charge for that should do. Of course, if your hotel has cameras in the lobby, checking the evening and morning video for her presence would resolve the issue.

How does one get a "four nights free" coupon anyway?

You got it Her losing streak is and frequent casino visits are pretty impressive by the way (I couldn't find a day where she was a winner). A few days before the call she lost $xxx and on the day she called she received her credit card bill so I can see not wanting to pay a dime for her hotel room. But if she is the one who requested the extension and she had the room occupied in some way she is responsible.

The only way I can see this being her a victim of us is if someone who worked for the hotel arranged the extension and took over the room when she checked out on the morning after the 4th night (pretty unlikely and super easy to catch thanks to key card logging and all that stuff).

Even if she was at timeshare on the 5th night if there was still stuff in the room (like housekeeping records state) the room can't be sold or given to anyone else so therefore she is using it.

She does have enough slot club points to pay for the room, if I was a manager I would suggest that to her.

Winners get stuff too. I had a caller yesterday surprised that her friend gets more comp nights than her. Took a look at their play after the call for my own curiosity, she plays a couple times a year and mostly loses (hey it's slots) he plays very frugally (slots again but he looks like he sticks $20 in and stops) once every few years, last time he was here he won a jackpot big enough to be forced to pay taxes (over $1,200). He mostly likely wasn't getting comp rooms before but now that we want a crack at winning our money back he does.

I can't go into to much detail but hypothetically let's say we might look at how much we are supposed to win mathematically off a person as well as how much we actually won and the computer makes decisions taking both numbers into account.

"Winning my money back"... That's the mantra of many a compulsive gambler.

I suppose it's *possible* she lefty after the 4th day... it's also possible an asteroid will demolish the earth before I finish posting.
