Guest: Dave, I am renting there and need to know of somewhere that has good local BBQ

Me: the nearest place is about 15 miles

Guest: and you expect me top drive me that far?

Me: well that is the closest place

Guest: well Dave, you are going to have to do better than that

Me: ma'am, I dont know what you want me to do

Guest: well I am your customer and I am asking for good local BBQ and I am not driving 15 miles to get it. I am just not gonna do it/

Me: well ma'am its the closest place

Guest: well Dave, I mean could someone there pick up an order for us and deliver it to our unit

    Me: no ma'am

Guest: wow....you people dont provide any customer service, do you? Well I guess we have no choice but to drive out there ourselves but I want you to know I am very disappointed in your company and I will remember it when I make my vacation plans next year. Thank you and go to hell.

Sounds like someone thought they were in a 4-star hotel with room service, not a rental house!

If 15 miles was too far, I guess they really didn't want good local BBQ, they just wanted a reason to complain.

umm... am I the only one who thinks that 15 miles isn't that bad?
After all, I didn't consider the commute to the hotel to be bad, it was 14 miles... 40 miles away wasn't even considered a long distance relationship yet... is it just that living in a massively spread out city like Salt Lake (and Reno before it... it actually is spread out, there are cities on both sides of a mountain, even though all the cities are considered their own cities, they might as well be one sprawling city... actually, same with Salt Lake) desensitived me to driving long distances, or is that really not that long of a distance?

Out here in the Bay Area, people don't think twice of fifteen miles. Most commutes are 20+, and some are upwards of 90 miles.

Average highway speeds being 60mph, and assuming you'd be able to go around that fast (I doubt the area's much built-up), yeah, 15 minute drive. Takes me 30 to get to work (though I take transit), so 15? NOTHING. Another craptastic complaint from someone looking for excessive butt-kissing attention.

15 MILES???? I drive that far to the frackin' grocery store, fer cripessake! It takes me almost an hour to get to work. :P

I wouldn't drive 15 miles for BBQ, though, because I have a BBQ on my front porch and I'm not afraid to use it. Hell, I would make sure that if I were renting a vacation house that it had a BBQ on-site, because nothing says vacation like the smell of grilling stuff.

                      Dammit, now I'm hungry.

slight nitpick... BBQ and grilling are two different things... BBQ is a slow relatively cool cook while grilling is a very fast hot cook.

I drive ~30 miles round trip every day for work (with traffic it takes me about a half hour each way). I live in the most densely populated state in the country, so things aren't exactly "spread out" either. There are 2 locations of the steakhouse that we usually go to for family birthday dinners, and they are both at least a 20-30 minute drive from my parents' house. The one location is closer to my brother's house, and I am in the middle, but the other location is a good 20 minutes past my parents' house in the other direction. And I have no problem driving there.

I'm not a BBQ fan but there's a place right down the road that's supposed to be good. Oddly enough, I haven't been to any of the restaurants that are all along the highway I live off of.
