  • phone book = satisfaction!

Many hotels are going green. We are meant to have no phone books in rooms at all now, ya know, to save the trees (and the internet is the biggest phone book). We are Montana, so we have phone books which is in defiance of our main company's requirements. We have very few phone books for some reason right now. We don't even have one at the desk, but the internet is just as handy.

I literally walk in the door, put my stuff down from a cold wintery drive to work, clock in....and this....immediately. It is just first day from days off...what a GREAT way to start a work-week...
OC = Other Coworker (leaving at shift change, sweet girl)

SC: I WANT A PHONE BOOK NOW!
    Me: Okay,
SC: THERE WASN'T ONE IN MY ROOM AND THIS MAKES ME VERY UPSET (from here on out, he is screaming at me....so imagine the caps continuing). I am not satisfied if I don't get one!!!!!!!!(eleventy)
    Me: Okay, okay...
OC: (from around corner) Oh, I don't think we have any extras...
Me: I am sorry, we don't seem to have any extras right now. I can...
SC: You better find me one then! You can't tell me there isn't one in this entire hotel, take one from another room!!!!! I won't be satisfied if I don't get one!!!
Me: (Thinking I will get one later for him, but want to be helpful now.) Okay, sure is there a number I can look up for you on the internet really quick??
SC: I want a phone book, now!!!!! I demand you get me one! Now! I can't believe you don't have any!
Me: Okay, just one moment. (I needed to get away from this guy f-ing yelling at me, so I go around the corner, say not happy words and look around for an extra behind the desk...there are none...I come back.) Okay, what room are you in so I can bring one to you?
SC: (yes, still screaming at me and being very very angry.) I am in room ###!!!!!! I better get a phone book I can't believe *risnse, rather, repeat*
Me: Okay, I will bring one right to you once I can get a chance here... (I am now frantically locking things that I need to lock & getting the necessary signage out so I can leave the desk because I am alone.)
SC: *literally stomps away from the desk angrily throwing things he comes to as he is acting like he is getting coffee, now around corner at coffee.* OH it's not room ### it's room ###, in the other tower! (Tower? I knew it...you're the evil sorceror....) (We have different building wings, you know, like a hospital kinda.)

I like how I am the idiot but he is so friggn angry for no f-ing reason over something honestly rather stupid, that he can't tell me his actual room number.

Okay this point the F-er stays in the lobby even though I told him I would bring it directly to his room.

I printed off a list of vaccant rooms so I could hopefully find a phone book. The room right across the hall from said guests had one...what a surprise... But what would have saved him time, I had to bring it to him in the lobby.

Me: *hand him phone book, prolly angrily myself* Here ya go. Sorry for that! I JUST got on shift, and the other person said we didn't have any! I apologize!
    SC: Okay.

    ffffffff$@#%$%#^$#@% You buddy! Holy crap!

My thoughts exactly. He didn't want to embarrass himself because he couldn't remember 1-900-DIAL-A-HO.

He'd rather just make an ass of himself in public.

I definitely applaud your restraint, though, because he would have been looking up a proctologist when said phone book was given to him rectally for yelling at me like that.

wouldn't the paper burn too fast? tin foil or a soda pop can would work better...

Sounds like one of VRS' old SC's came to your place. All that over a freakin' phone book. I have to applaud you for the restraint you showed that SC, if it was me, the phone book wouldn't be the only thing shoved up in one of his orifices.

We had one person cut up one of our Bibles to use as rolling paper.

As for phone books...haven't seen them used as rolling paper (yet), but on more than one occassion they've been turned into litter boxes for cats. That is one mess I don't like cleaning up.

He was a really really old guy who was high on our frequent stayer program. That doesn't mean much, but I think he woulda been more relaxed if he was doing that even if he was "jonesn'".

I am sure copping an attitude with him was enough. If I had done more, I woulda been called into work today to have a stern talking to considering how high of a ranking in our frequent stayer program he is.
