  • The joys of Christmas retail

The other day I had a a little old lady SC come in. The minute she walks in the door and I greet her, she starts rambling about how she took the wrong way (TOTALLY wrong way) and whispers to me, " I ended up in coloured town." So, I'm kind of shocked, but I figure at this stage of life, I'm not going to make her see the value of all people no matter what the color, etc., so I let this pass.
I should have acted shocked and walked away.
Next came the most miserable hour and a half of me explaining how each and every item she picked up worked, the price, how many we had, blah blah blah. Almost every item has the information and price on it, but appearantly it is total gibberish unless an employee diciphers it.
In the midst of all this, she's wearing a necklace with 3 religious symbols and goes into EXCRUCIATINg detail about it. I'm somewhat religious, but it's very hard for me to take this all in, because what she's saying is very judgemental on other faiths. I'm nodding and saying "huh" and "oh really" and other fun, non-commital remarks.
After all is said and done and her presents are wrapped, I bring her items out to her car as she's still talking about religion, then she stops, tells me I'm blessed and hugs me. I am NOT comfortable with customers touching me. Heck, I have problems with most people besides my family touching me. But finally, my ordeal is over and she's gone.
    Today, she came back!!!
Luckily, she came with her daughter, who is awesome and makes my life much easier this time around. Also, we were EXTREMELY busy so I couldn't be her personal shopper. Still, she had me re-explain all the items she bought and I had to go through the computer to find her receipt (a long and almost impossible process) so she could remember what she bought.
Sorry I'm not the best story teller, I will work on it!!

" I ended up in coloured town."
There were reds and oranges and yellows and greens and blues and purples everywhere! Quite beautiful!!

    ...sorry...
To err is human, to blame someone else shows good management skills.

and this is why I'm so glad I'm not in retail anymore *content sigh*
Sorry, my love cannot be bought. And if it could, you obviously don't have enough in your account to do so.

Gah, I hate when customers say offensive things and CSR are expected, no, required to smile and nod. It just validates their behavior Sorry you had to deal with that!

            There is so much....

            "...coloured town..."
            >>> Shakes head

I CANNOT stand a person who feels they are too "important" or that its in your job description to read the effing box themselves. I do try to be nice, but my face gives away my disgust at times.

I know. If they wanted a mindless automaton, why didn't they just build one?
Except that it's too expensive and far, FAR too logical.
