MoN: Wow, I didn't know they made glass baby bottles. I'll get this cleaned up right away. Are you and your baby okay?
StrollerMom: Well, Glass bottles are better for the environment!
I realize this may be a bit of a doozy for my first "real" post here, but ...
If the mother was *that* concerned about glass vs plastic and their contributions to the environment, my brain immediately assumes that what was in the glass bottle was not formula.
Customer walks up to myself and a co-worker...
Customer: Where's your Elevator?
MoN: On the opposite side of the store, next to the restrooms.
Customer: (supersnotty tone) The EL-E-VA-TOR, not the escalator...
MoN: (WTF x 2) Yes ma'am. The elevator is on the opposite side of the store. The ES-CA-LA-TOR is in the middle of the store, right by the big Christmas tree...
Customer: oh...
CW cracked up and teased me the rest of the day.
Ah yes, the old "You're a retail worker, so obviously you're stupid" mindset. Right, like you wouldn't know the difference between an elevator and an escalator, or where those big people-moving machines are located in the store. And of course, they can never, ever apologize for their snotty attitudes when they are proven wrong.
There are alternatives to using glass bottles, which regarding my earlier point, are probably far more dangerous to small children than plastic bottles could ever be. What happens next time, if the child drops the bottle and gets hit by flying glass shards?
You know very well what would happen.
"ZOMG!!!! THEY MAKE DANGEROUS BOTTLES! THEY HURT MY BABY!!!! I KNOW HE WAS BANGING IT ON THE FLOOR, BUT THE DANGEROUS BROKEN BOTTLE HURT MY PWECIOUS!!!!! I'MAGONNA SUE!!!!1111!!!!ELEVENTY!"
"But I don't want to be among mad people."
You can't help that. We're all mad here. Every fucking one of us.
See, you didn't handle that properly. The correct procedure is to tell her, "yes, I'll go and check", walk into the stock room, walk out the back door, have a cigarette or just enjoy the outside air for 5 minutes, then return and say "sorry, I couldn't find anything".
You could also just carry on as you were, have the customer wait to the side, and tell them "I AM in the back; it's just that I'm up here, too. You see, customer demands over the years have required me to do many mutually exclusive things at once, and be in two or three place at once so often over the years that I find it's simpler to keep my consciousness split at all times so that I can ALWAYS be both up here and in the back simultaneously. Oh, by the way, I just finished checking in the back. No more of the item you wanted. Sorry".

Also, babies and toddlers have a habit of throwing stuff out their prams and buggies, so surely a plastic bottle is better outside the home?
Let's just say for the sake of argument that glass is better than glass, for both environmental and baby health reasons.
Now, I am merely an uncle, not a father, but I have to ask--they have beer bottle coozies. They have beer can coozies. These things are made of foam. From experience I can tell you that if you drop your drink, and it is in a coozie, the foam will cushion the fall, either preventing the vessel from breaking, or at the very least, containing the breakage mostly or entirely within the coozie.
So am I to understand that there are NO fucking baby bottle coozies for those diva bitch baby mommas who insist on feeding their spawn from only glass baby bottles?
Just wondering.
And if these things don't yet exist, someone could make a small fortune by actually making and manufacturing these damn things. Ya think?
By the way, I hate to say this, but it's time for you to change your signature, EricKei.

A failure to shop early on your part, does not constitute an emergency on mine.
I guess I can empathize with the shopper a little. It stinks when you do not have enough money to shop until this week, and all the things you really wanted to purchase sold out. And it REALLY stinks when the sold out items were the only two items your child asked Santa for.

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply that it was acceptable to go SC over it, but I can understand their feelings of desperation and frustration. I have had those feelings in such a situation too many times.

Yes, we have all these things you are looking for. We hoard them in the back so that you can't buy them, because we're out to ruin your Christmas! Seriously, what is wrong with people? Wait, I probably don't want to know.
As a mother of three children, I would have never in a million years handed them a glass bottle! I would worry about them breaking and cutting up my child. I'm sorry for the environment, but my child not getting stitches is my first concern.

Baby bottles made with polycarbonate plastic, or softened PVC or other plastic, are bad for the BABY, especially if it is a boy. Read about BPA and phthalates to find out more.
That said, the lady leaving a glassy, formulaic mess for you was a bish.
Suckiness is reinforced up OR down at every transaction. Accepting BS makes them worse for all of us; firm fairness trains them to suck less.
