  • Cell phone Woes

I had one somewhat annoying customer today. This girl's boyfriend kept calling back. And every 2 minutes she's going "Bob I'll call you back." she had a few checks she was using. I honestly wanted to tell her to just hang up on the guy, and tht if he called back, to ignore him until she was out of the store or shut off her cell phone or something.

    Oh how I hate that.

Most of the time, I don't answer my phone at all. I see who's calling, hit silence, let them leave a message.

There was a major car accident in this area not too long ago. The woman responsible was texting while driving. She reportedly stated "It would have been rude not to reply." More rude, apparently, than causing a head on collision totaling 2 vehicles and putting 3 people in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Anyone care to make a wager that vital reply she was sending was something very similar to "idklol"?

I've never seen a cellphone without a "silence" setting option. Learn to use it.

I think the repeat-calling boyfriend would be the more sucky of the two. She said she'd call him back, but he obviously didn't listen or didn't care if he kept calling.

I'll grant that it might be rude not to reply to some messages, but I want to know who says that the reply has to be immediate? I've left texts unanswered for up to a full 24 hours without any unpleasant consequences, social or otherwise. That driver needs her license or her phone revoked. Or both.

My OLD phone didn't have a silence button. I could turn the ringer off, but I couldn't stop it from ringing while a call was coming in. Then again, I couldn't send text messages either. I think it was one of the first phones capable of receiving text messages.

Funny you should mention that. Just this morning, I saw some idiot attempting to text and drive during the morning commute. Seriously, get off the damn phone, or pull over! What's the big deal about not being able to be in constant contact. Yes, I do have a cell phone. No I will *not* answer it while driving.

Equally annoying, are certain relatives who will call constantly, and then get upset when I turn the phone off. Not long ago, I went off on my father...who called me a whopping 6 times in less than 10 minutes. I was in the shower, and I'm sure it rang more than that--the land line rang at least 6 times. What was so important? He was calling to remind me to visit my grandmother...as I was getting cleaned up, and trying to leave to do so

I hate people who flood your phone. If I didn't answer the first ten times, what makes you think I'm going to answer this time?

One day last week, my mom called me 5 times in 20 minutes, while I was in the tanning bed.

Then she texted me "Answer your phone!"

Many times when I'm on my way to my parents' house for family events, usually just miles away, my dad will start flooding my phone, thinking I'm blowing them off or purposely being late because I hate early days.

I'll admit that I do sometimes call my boyfriend twice or text him "Are you around?" but I'm not the type of person to call over and over and over.

My ex-GF would flood my phone sometimes. I'd be downstairs with the family, and hear my cell phone ringing upstairs. Only I'd keep hear it going. Ten times that night, she tried to call me. I don't know why she didn't get the hint I wasn't picking up that night.

I did that to a boyfriend once. He called while I was walking into Taco Bell and I thought I'd have enough time to finish the conversation before I got to the register to order. Little did I know I'd have to play his therapist and the line moved faster than I expected. When the person in front of me was ordering I told him I was in line to get food, I needed to order and I'd call him back when I was done. He kept talking, and eventually I said "Look, I need to go. I'll call you back," and hung up. And then he was mad at me for hanging up when I did call him back. The total time between hang up and call back? 5 minutes, tops. Geeze.

Gah, I'm really, really starting to hate people who can't put their phones down.

We spotted no less than 4 of these texting morons on the drive up to see Nekojin's family, and 2 of them were obvious by the way they were weaving all over the place and going 5-10 mph slower than everybody else.

For God's sake, either it can wait until you get to where you're going or you can pull the f*** over and then deal with whatever the hell life-shattering event you couldn't wait to respond to.
