  • "I understand that, but..." (furniture SC)

Yesterday I had a guy browsing our furniture area ask me if we still had the Lexington Collection. That name sounded vaguely familiar, but I knew it wasn't a current furniture collection we carried, and told him that, but offered that it might still be available online.

SC: So what you're telling me is that I can no longer get a file cabinet that matches the rest of my office? You know, I understand that the styles are changed every so often, but i'm hesitant to buy from a company that doesn't support their products like this.

That statement was so full of fail that I scarcely know where to begin.

First of all, I do believe the Lexington Collection was cleared out at least two years ago. At the very least, it's been at least one year, because that's how long it's been since I came to this store, and I've never seen it here. So.....just how long do you expect us to have the exact same stuff? How long were you planning to wait to complete your home office?

Second, you say you "understand" but clearly you don't. If you did, you wouldn't be bitching and moaning.

Third....."support their products?" Do you even know what that means? Well, it doesn't mean "keeping it in-stock." Dude, we don't even have SPARE PARTS here. Really, get over yourself.

    Really......what an idiot....

Funny I have yet to work in an office where every single piece of furniture matched from the same collection. Most offices were more practical about getting whatever was needed at the time, replacing what needed replacing, etc. I've never really paid attention, but my wife works for a state agency, and I suspect the same is probably true there. At home, we've set up a computer room/home office area in one of the spare bedrooms, and none of our furniture matches. Most of it was put together from pieces we each already had when we got married, and then later swapped out things we acquired that better fit our needs. The point is that none of it matches, but we could care less about that as long as it serves the purpose.

Heh. My office gets everything at auction, so we don't even get new furniture unless we get really lucky.

We're happy with stuff that works (mostly) right and isn't particularly unsightly.

Most of the stuff in my home office doesn't match either. Mainly because everything was purchased over several years...or collected from various places. I mean, my large bookcase was built up from several Billy cases from IKEA. I tried to get them all the same shade, but the newest one is actually "dark brown" instead of chocolate." Not really a big deal--a quick blast of black spray paint along the edges, Just the edges, since the case is completely filled, and nobody knows otherwise.

Other furniture in that room came from garage sales (corner bookcase), my parents' house (Dad's old wooden desk), or 'salvaged' from work (leather chair, floor mat, rug, printer stand). None of it matches, and no, I don't care

At least you guys can afford some kind of furniture. I don't have much at all. Bed, a bookshelf, two tables. That's it. Right to work state wages don't even cover food anymore.
