but I hate the way they re-did the sound on the newer translations.
I first saw it as either a first-generation sub or a fan-sub (not certain), and the sound mixing got changed at some point so the music and effects were mixed much lower than they should have been. Totally ruins the impact in a couple of scenes. Like the one with the stuffed bear.
They did the same thing to Heavy Metal, the bastards. Animation is first priority, then music. Dialogue is a distant third. I don't want to see a character cranking his stereo to 11 and hear what amounts to background level music...
