I had a better title in mind, but I forgot it as soon as I started typing.
Anyway, we have these coupons that customers with the store card get, where they can use it all day for the one day that they choose. One woman wanted to use hers...so here goes:
1. She hands me coupon
2. I scan coupon
3. She reaches for the coupon
4. I ignore her hand (this happens quite often) and continue to tell her the total and slide the store card
5. I hand her the store card and hold onto the coupon for just a minute more, which upsets her
I picked up my pen and started to mark the date on her card when she said, "What are you doing?!"
"I have to mark today's date on your card, since you're using it today."
"But I've been using this coupon all day and the people upstairs didn't mark it!"
"I'm sorry, but we're supposed to put the date on the coupon when you use it."
She kept her hand stretched out and said, "Can I PLEASE get my card back?"
"Just a minute!" I said, and quickly wrote down the date. Then she began to complain about that to the customer right behind her, about how no one else had marked the coupon when she'd used it earlier.
I don't know who ticks me off more, customers who whine about me putting the day's date on their coupon after they've chosen to use it that day, or the sales associates who don't put the date on the card at all and then make things worse for me when I get their customers. I don't mark the date to be a witch, I do it because I'M SUPPOSED TO!!! And complaining about it in front of me isn't going to make me feel bad for you, it's going to make me hope that I never see you again.
The customer behind her complained about our Use Your Card discount being only 15%, when according to her it used to be a 25-30% discount. I just ignored her too...well, tried to, but I had to pretend I was listening.
After she left my coworker said, "Damn, these people will complain about anything!"
